SO HERE'S MY QUESTION...
if the refs have THE ABILITY and THE FREEDOM to suddenly change the way they are calling the games...
then are they really doing an OBJECTIVE & FAIR job the entire rest of the season?
AND why the heck can't they call it the same way all year long? We have always been hurt by the ticky-tack stuff so this time we benefited when they suddenly stop calling it!!
That IS the question. I was talking about this very thing with Dub during the tourney. Nobody goes to games to watch the refs, so why do they feel the need to control the game so much during the year? I can honestly say this year wasn't horrible, but we have had some REALLY horrible years in the past. I think it was Les' last year that sticks in my head the most. So many fouls that year that I remember standing up and yelling at the refs that we weren't there to see them. And I am a pretty passive and quiet fan for the most part, so that's saying something.
Anyways, yes, the way the tourney was called is the way basketball should always be called. Though I would like to see the flagrant fouls go away and just go back to the old technical foul system.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I disagree a little - I think horrible, biased officiating cost us a couple games - most notably at Drake where their whistle-symphony sent Drake to the FT line about 40 times and we didn't even shoot 10!
Then there were the technicals on Nate for rolling his eyes, on Wardle for a simple hand gesture that he was displeased, games where endless offensive fouls and illegal screens get called - and also TWO different MVC head coaches were reprimanded for speaking on how bad the reffing was.
but to our credit- we overcame all that and made the adjustments

I agree, there were some games that were horrible, but as a season overall, I've seen much, much worse. That was the point I was making.
