Brown is obviously the top point guard, since the first team doesn't have one. And congrats to Eli -- he will keep moving up, I'm sure. I'm also sure that if Ja'Shon had gotten minutes early in the conference season he would be on the All Freshman team.

Has the first team ever had three "centers" on it?

Phil Fayne is a good player, who had a great season. But he was neither the leading scorer, nor the leading rebounder on a team that fell to a Thursday night seed.

Did Brown get punished for being a junior? He's unquestionably the guy who makes it go for the team that finished as the fifth seed, is shooting it over 46% from three, and averaged less than a point per game fewer than Fayne. This feels backwards to me.

wonder if there's ever been a Thursday play-in team that was gifted with two players on 1st or 2nd Team?
I know Fayne & Yarbrough can be very good but seriously - four teams (SIU, MSU, BU, UNI) above them did not get two players on 1st & 2nd Team....
including one team that dominated them and swept them..

...and I'm sorry, but Freeman on All Defense over DLO or Childs? Bradley led the MVC in FG% defense - Childs & DLO were huge reasons why. And when the money was on the line - Bradley WON ,9 of their last 13 MVC games, while Valpo LOST 10 of their final 12 games - so whose defensive abilities meant the most?

All of the awards are subjective, but the All-Defensive team is probably the most subjective of all. There are few objective metrics to measure which players are the best defensive players, unlike the other awards that show up a bit easier in statistical categories. Javon Freeman lead the MVC in steals in a year where there was really nobody else who excelled at that. And though steals are not a great indicator of who are the best defensive players, I suspect most voters who voted for him did so primarily because of that.

Sounds like some good motivation to show the rest of the Valley that some of the guys feel slighted.

Wow I don't get that either. Nate beats Haldeman in points, rebounds, assists, FG% and 3pt%.

The guys will have a chance to prove all of the voters incorrect starting Friday afternoon. If they prove that they should have been on the all D team then it will show this weekend. IMO DLO did n't play as good of D this season as last until the IL ST game here and then kind of started to pick up the Defense to the caliber that he played last season and kept that pace up except for a couple of games. If EC would have played all conference season like he did the second half he might have had even more awards. Now I would challenge the team to prove that the first 5 games were a fluke along w/ the MO ST game there.
Go Braves, bring home the championship

What a jip job to leave D Brown off of 1st team.
                      I am ticked.

Arguably in the top 10 of all BU players to ever suit up, and not even in the top 5 in a league that is weaker than it's been in decades.
                      Incredible!

                        Here's yet another puzzling fact

check the vote totals for player of the year
Four voters for each team could not vote for their own guy but there were 49 voters this year - including 9 MVC network guys.

Townes got 25-1st, 16-2nd, 3-3rd - so one voter did NOT have Townes even among his TOP THREE
McGlynn got 17-1st, 18-2nd, 8-3rd - so two voters did NOT have McGlynn among their TOP THREE

I would love to know what idiot(s) truly believed that Nick McGlynn and/or Marques Townes were NOT among the TOP THREE players in the league
and who did they put there instead?

2019 MVC Larry Bird Trophy Voting
                        Student-Athlete, School 1st 2nd 3rd ALL
                        Marques Townes, Loyola 25 16 3 110
                        Nick McGlynn, Drake 17 18 8 95
                        Cameron Krutwig, Loyola 5 8 14 45
                        Tulio Da Silva, Missouri State 1 2 7 14
                        Phil Fayne, Illinois State 1 1 7 12
Student-athletes received three points for a first-place vote,
two points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place
vote. Panelists could not vote for the student-athletes on their
team (or for media, the team they cover).
A total of 49 voters served on the 2019 panel, including four
voters from each school and an MVC network panel, consisting of
nine additional voters. Only the top-five vote getters are listed,
so the totals may not add up to 49, and the maximum number of
                        total votes received is 45.

                          Yes, very puzzling Tornado.

Phil Fayne?? Really - Phil Fayne ahead of Darrell Brown???

I mean - is Fayne even considered among the Top 30 All-time in ISU b-ball history?
I don't see how anyone would have D Brown outside of BU's Top 20 All-time.

                          COME ON!!!!

Mindboggling. BU has been rooked on MVC awards the past 3 years. Makes one wonder how much politics, inside baseball, and Oscar-like campaigning goes on. Or are the MVC voters that ignorant? With some of the officiating this year, and now the awards, the conference is doing a long time member a disservice.

If we broke through and won the conference tourney this year or 1st place next year, The American, CUSA, and especially the Horizon would be very friendly Emphasis on the wink...meaning not fully serious, but dang, it should tick off some folks in our athletic department big time.
