McGurks is a great place to eat but way better in the warmer days of the baseball season with 3 bars in their huge beer garden. There is also 360 rooftop bar at the ballpark Hilton open year round with fire pits, couches and a full bar outside and you can eat inside also. Great views of the arch and looking straight into Busch stadium. When it opened a few years ago it was rated the top rooftop bar in the U.S.

As a Peorian transplanted to St. Louis 25 years ago, for places near downtown, I concur in McGurk's, but for a range from pizza to fine dining at moderate prices, I highly recommend 1111 Mississippi, Vin de Set, PW Pizza, Hamilton's Urban Steak House and Bourbon Bar. They are all owned by the same couple and their employees and Vin de Set has a roof top they enclose for the winter (like McGurk's enclosed their patio) that had a nice view of downtown. For what is downtown,, there is Mango Peruvian Cuisine and Cinder House that replaced Cielo with the rooftop at the Lumiere Casino. Gerard Craft is the executive chef there, and he is a James Beard award winning local phenom.

Otherwise, if you like Italian, which I very much do, there is the aforementioned Hill everyone knows, but extend that out to places on Watson and Manchester, too, for some other great options.

I've heard both good and bad about Maurizio's Pizza on the corner of Tucker and Clark. My family and I like to eat somewhere between the 2 Friday sessions since the Enterprise Center makes you leave after the 2nd game. Wherever we end up I'm hopeful of our meal being very satisfying after a Braves W!
