  • MVC announces Player of the Week for March 3

With no games today (Sunday), the MVC announced the March 3 Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week awards a day earlier than usual.

Player of the Week is Armon Fletcher of SIU.
Newcomer of the Week is Cooper Neese of Indiana State.

If the sequence remains the same as the last few years, the All MVC teams (1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams), All Newcomer, and All Freshman teams should be released Tuesday morning, and the Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and 6th Man of the Year should be announced Tuesday afternoon (March 5).
Then the specialty awards will be announced Wednesday- The Most Improved Team and the All-Bench Team will be announced Wednesday, March 6.
The Coach of the Year will be announced at the MVC lunch banquet on Thursday, March 7.

Here are the announcements for last season's (2017-18 ) awards-

One MVC writer has released his ballot - Todd Golden of Indiana State - https://www.tribstar.com/sports/down...560b6a997.html

Interestingly - HE PICKS CAMERON KRUTWIG as the PLAYER of the YEAR - but in that same paragraph,
he notes "Marques Townes, Bradley", as if he doesn't know who Townes plays for...
He also seems to suggest that Bradley's Darrell Brown, Jr. was the 2nd best player in the league!!
..."Krutwig ... was the most impactful player I saw this season short of Bradley's Darrell Brown"

That surprises me because I think Nick McGlynn will win the Player of the Year

Dave Reynolds' article says he think the Player of the Year will come down to a close vote between Townes & McGlynn
BUT - unlike past years - Reynolds does NOT reveal who he voted for.

***edit - one other major disagreement I have with Golden's logic...
He places Valparaiso's Daniel Sackey on the All Freshman Team.....WHY??
He was a barely noticeable deep sub on a near-last-place team?
he didn't even average 4 ppg despite getting 18 minutes/game - compared to Ja'Shon Henry who averaged almost 10 ppg & 6 rpg in Valley play!
