  • Bradley and MVC attendance numbers for 2018-19

Bradley has completed their home schedule, so here are the final home attendance numbers.
In 16 home games, Bradley drew a total of 86,871 in attendance. The average is 5,429 per game. Just as was predicted here, that is a drop of 270 per game from last year's average of 5,699 per game.
However, with a crowd of 5,867 at the final home game, Bradley's average rose just enough to move them past ISU to the highest average attendance in the MVC this year. There are 5 teams that still have one home game left Saturday, but it probably won't change the fact that Bradley will lead the MVC in overall attendance attendance again this season despite the drop-off.
The conference-only attendance average dropped even more. In 2017-18, Bradley averaged 6,303 for 9 home MVC games. But this season, the average for the 9 home MVC games was just 5,749, a drop of 554 per game.

Just curious, are those figures tickets sold or actual butts in the seats? I have been told Bradley and the IHSA has not allowed the Peoria Civic Center to tabulate actual attendance numbers for quite some time.

they know the turnstile numbers (**) but don't report them -
They instead report tickets sold so it includes no-shows

(**- source was one of the members of the BU Athletic Dept. who would know)

Most, if not all, MVC schools report tickets sold as attendance.

The classic example that proves this was the Feb. 1, 2011 home game against Creighton. That was the "Snow Game" that was moved up to a 3:00 PM start because of a massive snowstorm that hit Peoria that day. Bradley upset Creighton in that game, which was a major factor in preventing Creighton from any hope of an NCAA bid. Greg McDermott was very upset with the MVC because of the change in starting time and it has been said that this game made him determined to get out of the MVC (which happened after the 2012-13 season). That game was attended by only 200-300 people because of the weather, but the official attendance listed was 8,091 despite absolutely no walk-up tickets sales that day-

That number shows just how much damage was done to Bradley's season ticket base by the administration's devastating changes in 2011.
There had to be close to 8,000 season tickets sold in 2010-11 (season ticket sales actually peaked close to 9,000 a couple years earlier), and now we have had total attendance figures as low as 4,386 at one game this season, suggesting that the season ticket base is now around 4,000 or less.

There is little doubt that Glasser single-handedly cost Bradley half the fan base

Here is a video of Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald answering a question last week about why attendance is down at football games and other sports events-

He pretty much says what I have believed for years-

I totally agree with this. It is pathetic!! Girlfriend and I were out to a lunch and saw the same thing. Look at their cell phones rather than talk to each other. It also gripes me when driving around town all the people on cell phones. If the Police Dept are short of money all they would have to do is assign one person just to drive around handing out tickets for cell phone usage they could fund their budget for the year
