All 4 teams have a lot to play for. The home teams need a win to keep up with us and the road teams need a win to stay in 1st and stay 1 game in front of Missouri State. Can Drake keep their momentum going? Can ISU find any semblance of playing together and end their 5 game losing streak? Can Loyola score enough points on the road? Can SIU stop being a wishy washy team? All of this and more tomorrow on How the Valley Turns.

Both of today's MVC games are televised nationally on cable.
The Drake at ILSU game is at 1:00 PM on CBSSports Network.
The Loyola at SIU game is at 3:00 PM on ESPNU.
Drake (10-5) has won 4 straight, while ILSU (7-8.) has lost 5 straight. But Illinois State is actually a 1 point favorite today.
Loyola (10-5) has lost 2 of their last 3, including their only 2 game losing streak of the MVC season. They are just 3-4 in MVC road games
SIU (7-8.) has also lost 2 of their last 3, and they are just 4-3 at home in the MVC. But SIU is actually a 1 point favorite today.
If ISU and SIU both lose, Bradley will be in 5th place all by themselves.
Standings as of this morning (2/24)Drake 10-5 - 21-7 Loyola-Chicago 10-5 - 17-11 Missouri State 10-6 0.5 16-13 Northern Iowa 9-7 1.5 14-15 Bradley 8-8 2.5 16-13 Illinois State 7-8 3 14-14 Southern Illinois 7-8 3 14-14 Valparaiso 7-9 3.5 14-15 Indiana State 6-10 4.5 14-14 Evansville 4-12 6.5 10-19

Terrible blown call takes possession away from Drake when they had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final minute, and may very well have cost Drake the game. Drake then was forced to resort to fouling and Illinois State wins 67-62

The play involved Drake inbounding under ISU's basket, they passed the ball forward and it was caught by Garrett Stutz while straddling the midcourt line. He then dribbled on the midcourt line and was called for over-and-back. Unbelievable that all 3 refs apparently did not see that he clearly was never in possession of the ball with both feet in the frontcourt. As any ref knows, over-and-back cannot be called until the offensive player is completely in the front court with both feet and in possession of the ball.

btw - once again Dan Muller tries to rush a kid back from injury and it burns him...
Matt Hein, who fractured his hand just a little over 3 weeks ago was brought in off the bench and played a few 1st half minutes..
then early in the 2nd half - while scoreless on 0-2 shooting, re-injured his hand, was said to be in a lot of pain and did not return - possibly re-fracturing it? If it is refractured, then that is a tough break for him since I don't think they really needed him this game.
BTW - Muller's odd strategy of fouling a guy intentionally when you are ahead by two is likely prompted by him getting beaten TWICE this season on buzzerbeater 3-pointer heaves...and he didn't want it to happen again on national TV.

The ability to win in St. Louis means having a team that can win three games in 3 days...
Not that I can prove it's relevant, but...
-Bradley just won 4 in a row including 2 on the road against the upper teams in the Valley and also would have a 6-game streak were it not for horrible refs at Drake
-Drake just won 4 in a row
-Evansville has not even won two in a row in the MVC
-ISU hasn't won back to back games since January 30-Feb. 2
-Indiana State like Evansville has not won back to back since MVC play started
-Loyola surprisingly has not strung together 3 wins in a row since Jan. 12-19
-Missouri State has had a couple 3 & 4 game win streaks
-UNI is currently on a 4-game win streak but they had nothing close until now
-and Barry's being hopeful since his Salukis haven't strung together more than 2 wins in a row and only did that once since the earliest part of January
-Valpo is an enigma - since winning 4 in a row in early January, they have only won 3 since and not a single 2-game streak since the opening 2 weeks
So the teams that have strung together 3 straight since Feb. 1 include Bradley, Drake, Missouri State & UNI
With a win today against Drake, Dan Muller temporarily sets aside his mantle of "Mr. Thursday Night"
