  • Final score: Drake77 Bradley 68

Bradley has won 4 straight games, and 7 of their last 9. They also have a 3-game road winning streak, and have moved into a 3-way tie for 4th place in the MVC.
The Braves' next game is at Drake on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Bradley is 15-12 overall, and 7-7 in the MVC. Drake has the best overall record in the MVC at 20-7, and they are 9-5 in the MVC, and currently in 2nd place, 1/2 game behind Loyola, who play at Evansville Sunday.

Drake was picked 9th in the MVC preseason poll, but new head coach Darian DeVries has the Bulldogs playing as well as any team in the conference, despite losing perhaps their best player Nick Norton to an ACL tear in their first MVC game. I think DeVries should get the Coach of the Year award.
Drake's leading scorer and rebounder is center Nick McGlynn, who is the leading Player of the Year candidate. He averages 15.4 ppg and 8.3 rpg overall. He is 4th in scoring and leads the MVC in rebounding. His MVC-only stats are 14.9 ppg and 9.1 rpg. The other starters take turns having great games, but it seems that they have a couple players step up every game.
Drake is the highest scoring team in the MVC averaging 76.4 ppg, more than 5 ppg above the next highest scoring team. Their 3-point percentage is 36.4%, which is average and ranks 5th in the MVC, but they take more threes (24.2 per game) and make more per game (8.8 per game) than any other MVC team.

I mean he has to be a lock for COY. Amazing what that team has done and without their star player at that. That being said, let’s take care of business at the Knapp Center and avoid Thursday.

After Loyola's loss to Missouri State - here's a glimpse of the Feb 17 Missouri Valley standings.. WHAT A LOG JAM. Arch Madness is WIDE OPEN. It's a pitty that one of the 7-7 teams will likely be playing the Thursday round. And technically Valpo and Indiana State can still make the top 6. GO BRAVES - Tuesday's Game Bradley at Drake Is HUGE !!!!
      Drake 9-5 - 20-7
      Loyola-Chicago 9-5 - 16-11
      Missouri State 9-5 - 15-12
      Bradley 7-7 2 15-12
      Illinois State 7-7 2 14-13
      Southern Illinois 7-7 2 14-13
      Northern Iowa 7-7 2 12-15
      Valparaiso 6-8 3 13-14
      Indiana State 5-9 4 13-13
      Evansville 4-10 5 10-17

Im not giving up on our guys winning the awards. Is it a looooooooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg shot? Yes. Out of the queston? No this is college hoops, nothing ever is. Should be a high scoring, up and down the court kind of game. Need to make sure we get back on defense and not lose their shooters. On offense we need to stay aggressive without turning the ball over. The first game saw us play one of the worst 1st halves all year as we shot just 5-33 from the field, they outrebounded us by 12 and generally outhustled us for every loose ball. Hard to believe that was just a month ago but we have gone 7-2 since then and we look like a completely different team. Hopefully that keeps up and we can get another W. LET'S GET ER DONE BOYS!

The last game for both Drake and the Sugar bears is against each other. That will most likely determine COY. Its in Springfield so advantage Ford. Everything is so up for grabs.

Biggest game of the BW era.
                Let's do this!

I can't remember the last time the Braves won 8 out of 10 conference games...probably need to go back to 1995-'96 season.

I really want this game - hopefully the boys do more than us!!

One more thing I was thinking of...

After we sank to 0-5 at the beginning of the Valley season, I told my friend (a BU grad) that I'm not sure we will win until February - kind of like that nightmarish season under Les, when we won our 1st game in early Feb with the Blizzard game.

I am bewildered that we are sitting here talking about possibly capturing the #3 spot in the tourney, when just 2 weeks ago we were hoping for a miracle to stay out of the Thursday play-in game!

                  Very cool!

                    Just a comparison:

Over the last 6 games -

                    ................Record.........Scoring differential.........Points scored........Points allowed .........
                    Bradley ....5-1 ...................+54 .............................. 75 ppg ................... 66 ppg
                    Drake .......4-2 .................. -16 ................................71 ppg ................... 74 ppg

ESPN's gamecast predictor has Drake a 75.1 percent chance of winning. That's ok, they had ISU at 61.1 and Loyola at 72.3. I like being a under dog. GO BRADLEY

Based on the Jeff Sagarin win-loss formula applied to the final 4 games, these charts predict what final position and seed each team will get.
The teams are listed in alphabetical order. The top chart shows the number of simulations result in each place in the standings (out of 100,000 simulations), and the bottom chart shows the percentages.
Bradley is most likely to end up 5th and get the #5 seed (behind #1 Loyola, #2 Drake, and #3 Missouri State, and #4 SIU), however, as seen, there is still a mathematical possibility Bradley could finish as high as 1st or as low as 10th.

It's so tempting to think of "What might have been" this season had we not fallen into a deep pothole at the start of the conference schedule. The journey has had rough patches, but our Braves are back on course for The Arrival. Beat those Bulldogs, and then get out of Des Moines before tonight's snowstorm. My daughter lives in Des Moines, and they've had about three feet of snow in the past five weeks and are on course to break century-old records.

glad to hear that the horrible effects of global warming seems to have skipped Des Moines altogether...but unfortunately if the sea levels rise enough- say 1000 feet, Des Moines will still be in trouble
