  • BU women win

The Bradley women fell behind Indiana State by 17 points late in the 4th quarter, and still trailed by 15 (78-63) with 2:27 left. It looked hopeless. But they staged one of the most amazing comebacks I have ever seen. BU was down 78-63 when Nyjah White stole the ball, and Lasha Petree, who had a cold-shooting night up to that point, canned a 3-pointer at 2:27 to cut the lead to 78-66. Then Petree stole the inbounds pass, and canned a 2nd three pointer at 2:21 to make it 78-69. Petree stole the ball again on the next Indiana State possession, and was fouled and made 1 of 2 FTs to make it 78-70 with 2:12 left. Petree nailed another 3-pointer on Bradley's next possession to cut the lead to 78-73 with 1:50 left. Then Petree stole the ball again on the next Indiana St. possession for her 3rd steal in a 30 second span, and then she nailed a 4th 3-pointer at 1:41 making it 4 three pointers and a total of 13 points inside a 46 second span, and cutting the lead to 78-76. Two more Indiana State turnovers and a missed shot lead to Bradley taking the lead 80-78 on free throws. Then Indiana State scored with 8 seconds left to tie the game 80-80. And on the next Bradley possession Lasha Petree was fouled and made 1 of 2 FTs to win the game 81-80.
Bradley scored 17 of the final 19 points over slightly more than 2 minutes, with Lasha Petree scoring 14 of them. Gabi Haack had 20 points, and Chelsea Brackman had 17/7.

Lasha Petree getting a little national press for her late game heroics-
...Lasha's younger sister, Mahri Petree, is signed and will play next year at Bradley...

Video from 1½ years ago posted by Jamey Petree - Lasha's father, who was assistant coach under Andrea Gorski when Andrea was coaching at Concordia

this game was nowhere near as close as even the final score indicates...
Bradley blew out to a 25 point lead early before halftime and by the 2nd half was subbing liberally and giving liberal playing time to all eight of their reserves
Interesting that Bradley had ONLY ONE PLAYER log more than 22 minutes (point guard Koenig had 25 minutes) but Evansville kept three
of their starters in for 37, 36 and 35 minutes!! Punishment? Two of them, Wallace & Bishop, combined for 2-20 from the floor!!

Bradley's Lasha Petree is once again the MVC Newcomer of the Week...for Feb. 11 - the 4th time she has won the award.
She also won the Newcomer of the Week award on Jan. 28, Dec. 17, and Nov. 12.
She won the Player of the Week as well on Dec, 17.

Lasha Petree is currently the highest scoring freshman in the MVC (12.9 ppg). She also ranks 2nd in 3-point percentage in MVC games with 40.0% , second only to teammate Gabi Haack who is shooting 42.3%. She also leads the Braves in steals.

After the tremendous success last weekend with the 17-point comeback against Indiana State and the blowout win over Evansville, the Bradley women looked like a completely different team tonight at Southern Illinois (where have we seen that scenario before?)
The Braves had a poor shooting game, fell behind early, never could get back even, ran out of time and lost at SIU 62-55 tonight.
They managed to shoot just 28% (16-57) from the field and 21% from three (3-14). Lasha Petree finished with 18 points, but was just 6-20 from the floor, and 0-6 from three. Bradley's leading scorer Gabi Haack had 8 points, and 2nd leading scorer Chelsea Brackman had 14 points & 10 rebounds.
                        SIU 62 - Bradley 55

Their record is now 18-7 overall and 8-6 in the MVC, and they jump over ISU into 4th place.

The Bradley women close out their home schedule today with a game at the Renaissance Coliseum at 2 pm against Loyola.
It is Senior Day, and the team has only 2 seniors- Shaunseere Kent and Vanessa Markert.
Thanks to those 2 seniors for being key parts to the amazing turnaround of the women's basketball program! Go Braves!

The BU women are 9-6 in the MVC, and 19-7 overall. Only Drake has a better overall record.
They are tied for 4th place with ISU, but Bradley owns the tiebreaker by winning both games against ISU
There are 3 games left, today's home game against Loyola, and road games next weekend at UNI and Drake.

and I believe they are now tied for 3rd place
