Here's Kurt Pegler's report on the BU-ISU game - both the video report & print report
    https://www.centralillinoisproud.com...-68/1721476246

I have seen a few comments that were less than complimentary on Kurt but this report was very fair, very complimentary of Bradley and was as good as anyone's coverage.
We are very fortunate here in Central IL to have the guys we have - Kurt Pegler & Jim Mattson.... plus we were fortunate
to have Lee Hall all those years, but now he is no longer on-air
(Josh Simon & Marc Strauss both left when WEEK & WHOI merged - Strauss is over at WJBC in Bloomington, Simon works in Florida)

I watched that report. I think it was pretty straightforward and fair as Kurt usually is. What is the criticism? I have always thought Kurt does a wonderful job.

Kurt is an ISU grad, and has done play-by-play for ISU games for many years on Comcast, and now on ESPN3 and ESPN+. I do not think he is a Bradley fan at all, and don't recall seeing him at Bradley games (though I am sure he had probably been at a few). So I don't blame him if he is a bit biased toward his alma mater. But he does a good job and his coverage is fair, IMO. But on his nightly sports reports, if the two teams have both played, he will lead with the ISU game report and usually gives them a bit more coverage than Bradley, which is odd considering I suspect his audience is mostly Bradley fans.

That's odd considering Bradley basketball is all we talk about when I see him at Landmark or a WMBD event.

Next time you see him ask him why he always reports about the ISU games before he reports about Bradley, and shows more highlights.

I don't have a problem with Pegler as I don't usually watch that sports news. However I do have a problem with Mattson since he totally ignored Bradley women's amazing comeback and not one word was said about it on his sports news.I don't care at all about Illini and he will always lead with that news or Morton sports since he lives there.I will continue to support Bradley and will always encourage fans to support the women's program as well as the men.

but I see Mattson & Pegler at just about every sporting event I go to -
they do a great 1st hand job covering everything local....
Can't say that about the PJS - they mostly DON'T cover most local sports and if they even mention the scores or a box score -
it's just from info faxed in by the schools or the coaches.
The guy covering and writing on Pekin's win in their Regional was Steve Stein - who has been with the PJStar several years but I can't find where he ever writes much about boys basketball.
Then you have this guy - who instead of writing something positive about Morton girl's amazing and
              UNPRECEDENTED FOURTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP -
and instead of saying much positive - he claims they won because there isn't any decent competition in the state and there's a watered down 4-class system!
What a joke of an article...the guy should be ashamed.
Perfect example of why I dropped my subscription, as this is athe way they treated any good accomplishment by Bradley
for the past two decades until Joanne hired Geno, then they sure drooled over every hapless recruit he brought in and even hailed and touted as a great accomplishment a crappy 16-16 regular season in 2012-13 (the only decent players were inherited kids like Lemon, Dyricus, Eastman, Egolf, Prosser) against a woefully weak schedule.

I have not read the above article, however having covered girls basketball (primarily in Central Illinois) for the last 11 seasons, I do believe that the 4-class system has watered down the competition in 3A. Morton has been good, but I honestly don't believe they would have 1 championship in a 2-class system.

What difference does it make. Congrats Morton.

Maybe - but a lot of people said they wouldn't even get out of their regional this year -
In fact, they may have beaten the best team in the state to do so (#1 ranked Richwoods) - https://www.pjstar.com/sports/201902...ectional-title
...and along the way Morton didn't just beat Richwoods twice - they also knocked off multiple large 3A & 4A powerhouses - Wheaton Warrenville, Simeon, East Moline, Champaign, Normal Community, Galesburg, Bloomington... not to mention they played without one of their best players & still won the title.

The problem the last couple years with the state tournament in girls basketball in 3A is that Richwoods and Morton (probably the top 2 schools) have to face each other in the Sectional. Anyone who didn't think they would win their regional has not watched girls basketball. The question was only the sectional. As for the powerhouses you mentioned, not one of those schools had a great year or were ranked other than Richwoods.

they weren't pushovers - and Morton too Fremd to OT ( the 4th ranked team in the state that beat one of the other 4A Final Four)
..and another one failed to beat Richwoods
Morton has only lost one game in State Tournament play over the past 5 years - who knows how they'd do facing the best of 4A
