  • MVC Weekly Awards for January 2

It was a pretty odd week with only six games played since December 23rd...three of which were embarrassing losses with the other three being wins against low level, non-DI opponents.
So it was probably pretty hard to actually find any decent performances to give the awards to...

The Player of the Week went to Wyatt Lohaus, who didn't even start in UNI's only game but he scored 23 even tho it didn't help in the double digit home loss.
The Newcomer of the Week was Ryan Fazekas, who scored 19 pts playing 25 minutes in a 36 pt mauling against an extremely weak opponent that played the game AS AN EXHIBITION GAME with 11 different of their players getting 11 to 19 minutes
The 2018-19 Missouri Valley Conference schedule begins with five games Wednesday, Jan. 2.  Illinois State enters this season with the longest active winning streak among MVC schools with three-straight wins in conference-opening play.  Last year’s regular-season and tournament champ Loyola has the longest losing streak in MVC openers, having lost three in a row.

    From the MVC article above-
    1,000-Point Club
Five Valley players (SIU’s Armon Fletcher, Bradley’s Darrell Brown, Missouri State’s Jarred Dixon and Loyola’s Clayton Custer and Marques Townes) have eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau in their careers. Three players are in position to reach the milestone in the opening week of league play (Jordan Barnes of Indiana State, Phil Fayne of Illinois State and Nick Norton of Drake).

Note that of the 5 MVC players who have already passed the 1000 point mark, and the 3 more who will pass it very soon, all are 4th year players except Darrell Brown. Darrell has another 1½ years to add to his numbers. He currently has 1,044 career points in the 78 games he has played in. If he continues his current scoring pace of about 15 points per game for the rest of this season, and for another full season, he could add about 780-800 more points to his total. So even if his output next year stays the same, he could finish his Bradley career with more than 1,800 career points.

Below is a list of Bradley's top 50 all-time career scorers prior to the start of this season. Darrell Brown had 848 points after his first 2 seasons and ranked 66th.
He has moved up to #44 at this point, but will continue to climb up the list.-

Here is a list of the top career Missouri Valley Conference career scorers since 1984-85 (thus this list excludes many of Bradley's greatest players like Mitchell Anderson, Roger Phegley, Chet Walker, Paul Unruh, Joe Allen, etc)
Of course, Bradley's Hersey Hawkins is #1.
If Darrell Brown continues at his current scoring pace, he could end up inside the Top 20 all time MVC scorers on this list.-
    https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...er-career.html

The all time list of career scorers in the MVC is buried in this MVC media guide on page 155-
    http://mvc-sports.com/documents/2018..._MBB_Guide.pdf

Hersey Hawkins is still #1, ahead of Hall of Famers #2 Oscar Robertson and #3 Larry Bird.
Darrell Brown, if he completed his Bradley career with about 1800 points, would land somewhere around 30th all time in career MVC scoring

not sure why Nick Norton gets mentioned in this context...
This sort of accolade should go to those kids who score those points while in the MVC.
should we also mention Josh Cunningham and even Jordan Swopshire who both hit 1000 but got most of it elsewhere like Norton? How about Shea Feehan who might hit 2,000 points this season?

Doug McDermott actually passed Hersey on the NCAA list, but is only #4 on the MVC list because Creighton left the MVC prior to his senior season.
