  • Final score: Bradley 63 Southeastern Louisiana 60

Bradley is now 7-5 after the road loss at Georgia Southern. Their next game is the final non-conference game, a home game against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions of the Southland Conference.
Southeastern Louisiana is 4-6 so far this season and their RPI is currently 326. They have a game Wednesday night at Grambling State before making the trip to Peoria. The game is at 1:00 PM at Carver Arena, though I am not sure why, since there does not appear to be any other event that day in the arena (the Peoria Rivermen play a road game in Moline that night).
Bradley has never played Southeastern Louisiana before.

SE Louisiana finished tied for 1st in the Southland Conference (with Nicholls State) last season with a 22-12 overall record and a 15-3 conference record.

They lost in the Southland Conference Tournament and got a bid to play in the NIT, where they got a bad draw and had to travel to Moraga, California to play #25 ranked St. Mary's, where they were eliminated.
This season, they were picked 2nd in the 2018-19 Southland Conference Preseason Poll-

    Stats- http://www.espn.com/mens-college-bas...tats/_/id/2545

Pending tonight's game at Grambling State, SE Louisiana has only 2 players who average more than 5.5 ppg-
Leading scorer and rebounder Moses Greenwood is a 6'7" senior forward who averages 15.7 ppg & 7.2 rpg. He shoots 53.8% from three point range, though he is only 7-13.
2nd leading scorer Marlain Veal is a 5'9" senior point guard who averages 14.0 ppg and 4.9 assists per game, and 31.4% from three.
Their other 3 starters are 6'8" senior guard Keith Charleston (3.9 ppg & 3.9 rpg, 17% from three), 6'1" junior guard Von Julien (2.7 ppg & 16% from three), and 6'5" junior guard Kajon Brown (3.8 ppg & 7% from three).
As a team, SE Louisiana is one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the country. They are just 25.9% (52-201) . That ranks 346th out of 353 D1 teams.
They average making only 5 three pointers per game out of an average of 20 attempts per game.

My glasses are a lot less rose-colored than a few weeks ago. But there is still time to right the ship. Use this game to regain confidence and clean up the messes of the past several games. Get Ari more experience. Re-establish (or find) an identity. And then wipe the slate clean and go into conference season with intent to win it. Protect the home court. Steal road wins. Bring excitement, crowds, and a long-overdue championship to Carver.

That's my BU Christmas wish list, anyway . . .

Boya did look better on the offensive end, but was out of position a lot on defense. That will come with time. He's definitely showing the potential and I like his motor and attitude a lot.
Not sure Bradley has a go-to person down the stretch. Who should have the ball in their hands when the game is on the line. I don't see it in Brown.
Donte Thomas (one of my favorite Braves ever) and his leadership from last year is really missed. I'm struggling finding a leader on this team.
I really don't like Coach's substitution patterns. It's almost like the players are playing scared of being pulled.
The raw talent is there. Just need to figure out how to play like a team.

I'm pulling this quote from the "last game" post made this morning and continuing it here. I agree with the comment from Purple Ace Fan. The players seem to play "tentative" (playing scared of being pulled). As if their hesitation to make a pass or drive to the lane or take it to the hole - gives the defending opponent an advantage due to the lag time and our players are scared of making a mistake. Does anyone recall the number of fast break points that Bradley made in 2006 beating Kansas and Pitt ? Kansas Coach Bill Self even mentioned after the 2006 game how his team couldn't handle all of Bradley's nimble and quick guards. I also remember how Bradley's defense was so in synch where players would immediately trade off and guard the offensive opponent coming off of a screen. I tribute a lot of that 2006 defense to Bradley assistant Chuck Buescher. Chuck coached a lot of Illinois State Title HS Teams and Chuck emphasized defense on those teams. At this time I don't see any of this during these past 3 or 4 games. I "thought" I did during the SMU and Penn St. games earlier this year - but that was short lived. There is so much to this game that is mental which builds confidences and the ability to take fast break risks.... Which are awesome when done correctly. Bradley has the players - they showed it during the SMU and Penn St. games - they need to regain their confidence. During the Georgia Southern game last night - Nate Kennel showed some confidence with his 3's shooting and Dwayne L-O showed some confidence taking the ball into the paint and his defense. Boya I give the freshman some grace last night - it was only his second game and he looked better. I am not sure what the solution is for this team - but I believe each player needs to strengthen their confidence and "maybe" Wardle lightening up on any threat of quickly pulling a player. Not Sure. GO BRAVES.

After a promising start... the question I now find myself asking is: Can we even compete at home against a team from the Southland Conference at this point? 2 coaches and eight years since Les.... shoot me.

Can’t assume anything today with how we have been playing the last few games but we need to re-establish our defensive identity and try to establish one on offense. The Valley season starts next game. Can’t keep trying to find a rotation. The “Arrival “ better get here real quick

Who knows? I just listened to the post game show, and nobody ever even brought it up. Is it some kind of highly classified secret?
Why isn't there anyone in the media who will ask the question? There was no explanation on radio or newspaper after the Georgia Southern game either.

It is also hard to explain why this team suddenly can't make baskets. Today, they shot 34%, were outrebounded 39-32, and we were only 26-39 on FTs, including a couple missed front end of 1 and 1's.

There is probably a decent reason but it sure hurts not to have him when we can’t score-he is one of our better scorers

Just like all of you, I’m trying to figure out why this team has gotten markedly less effective as the season has progressed. After the tournament success, something changed... and it’s not that anyone stopped caring, trying, or working. I think what I’m seeing is burnout and mental exhaustion. Coach Wardle even said in the postgame “this team needs a break.” I think there may be times when we work our guys too hard... I don’t see people having fun. Also... There are too many times when I see the team lacking a floor leader, or anyone calling huddles on the floor. Wardle is a very strong leader and I hope he’s leaving enough “airspace” for player-leaders to emerge. On the bright side, our early success proves we have what it takes... they ought to go back and watch those games.
                            Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

It felt like a loss the whole way. At the same time i was expecting us to take control and pull away the whole way too. Childs Bar and Boya will be scary next year. Henry and Brown starting back court. The bright side to LVB having a disappointing start to his sr yr is now anything we get is considered a bonus. The real season starts a week from wends. Lets go. Valley season is here. Go Bu. Bar was solid. Eventually Boya will be dominant. Hes fun to watch. Kinda raw but wow. Long as we look good and Win against UNI my optimism about this season will sky rocket. Were due to play real well. We will be better next year. Better than ? Only time will tell. If we win the valley this year. Id almost guarantee we repeat. Could finsh 6th or first or anywhere inbetween. I do not think Drake is forreal, DBJ will lock that guard up. Its going to be alot fun. Go Braves.
