SIU just beat SEMO, but their leading scorer Armon Fletcher did not play - and wasn't even present at the game (at SEMO).
After the game coach Barry Hinson revealed that Fletcher was suspended. not injured, but did not elaborate.
then yesterday, Hinson said he was not sure if Fletcher would play in the Murray State game Wednesday.
But, now this morning he is saying something different - he is saying the Fletcher will not play and is still suspended.
In an audio interview for 103.5FM ESPN (WXLT in Christopher, IL - between Carbondale & Benton) -
Barry said some things happened right before that game Saturday at SEMO & that he was proud of how his team handled it. He referred to it as "adverse situations" and specifically said Fletcher was guilty of a "violation of team rules" and "we'll leave it at that" and would not have anything further to say.
But notice the difference - Barry Hinson is NOT afraid to bench and suspend his best player when it is needed. Some coaches in the Valley would never do that and would ruin their own team chemistry by playing the guy when he continually violates team rules.
I take that all back about Barry Hinson...
Fletcher is back with the team, he's dressed and warming up....
anyway- SIU is getting killed -
Murray State leads 43-14 with under 3 min left in the 1st half - lots of turnovers and bad shots
...update
Halftime Murray State 49 - SIU 18
......and Barry's at it again - in the short interview (ESPN+) leading to halftime, Barry seems to throw his team under the bus...and whether Fletcher plays is moot
...elsewhere Wichita is struggling with Jacksonville State - up just 3 nearing halftime
SIU now trails by 31 points at home. Murray state is a good team, but SIU was supposed to be, too. SIU was favored by 3 in this game. They have shot horribly with an array of airballs, and shots that barely draw iron. They also have a bunch of turnovers, and getting noting from their bench. In addition, they look like they just don't care. It will be interesting to see what Barry says after this game.

Edit: Murray State wins 80-52
Leading scorer Armon Fletcher did not play.
SIU is now 7-4.
SIU starting guard Marcus Bartley, who was voted on to the 1st team All MVC in the preseason poll, was scoreless for the 3rd time in their last 5 games. His average is down to 7.0 ppg.
