  • Drake loses starter to injury

Late in the 1st half of their last game, forward Tremell Murphy fell hard on his right elbow. He left the game and did not return.
There has been no official statement as of yet about his injury, however...a few unofficial reports suggest it is a very serious injury.
Some speculation that he broke his elbow but most of the unofficial reports say he dislocated it and will be out 4-6 weeks,
but elbow injuries are really hard to come back from quickly because after several weeks in a cast or a splint, the entire arm will be stiff and work differently - and this is his shooting arm. He could need extended physical therapy to regain full range of motion and strength.
Drake has only played 6 games, so if he is lost for the season, then he would likely get this year back as a medical redshirt year.
He is currently averaging 9.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg

    update ....
their Coach's show - it was discussed that they think he may have torn ligaments in his right elbow and that he will be re-evaluated - and may need surgery...
if he undergoes surgery then almost certainly he will be done for the year....
if they think it will heal without surgery, then he may still be back in that 4-6 week time frame.

they had just announced that one of their other big men is going to redshirt - so this leaves them thin up front- https://www.westernadvocate.com.au/s...keeps-him-out/

Speaking of injuries, Illinois State has injury issues, too.
In addition to losing badly at UIC last night, one of their starters did not play at all. Redshirt junior/juco transfer Zach Copeland had apparently "tweaked his knee" in their game Nov. 28 against BYU. But it didn't seem serious and he played 25 minutes in their next game Dec.1 against San Diego State. It flared up a little in their practice Monday, but he seemed ready to play last night and warmed up as usual with the team. He never said anything to the coaches about the knee before the game last night. But when his coach told him to enter the game, he refused. ISU lost to UIC 94-75. Coach Dan Muller said "At the start of the game I went to sub him in, and he said he couldn't play," Seems quite odd that he wouldn't mention it to one of the coaches until he was called on to enter the game.

So Copeland sat out last night's game. Matt Chastain missed the game, too, his second in a row. He was injured in the Nov. 28 BYU game and has not played since due to an ankle sprain. And Matt Hein has missed the last 6 games due to an ankle injury. Unfortunately, ISU has so many scholarships tied up with all their transfers sitting out that these injuries are really taking a toll.
