The Bradley game in the Missouri Valley/Mountain West Challenge is Saturday against New Mexico...
New Mexico's story over the past 3-4 decades is interesting...
from the early 80's thru the early 2000's New Mexico was a dominant team that was producing 20 to 25 win seasons virtually every season.
During a stretch from 1986 thru 1999 they AVERAGED 23 wins per season!!
Then three things happened that have changed their fate....such that now New Mexico is no longer synonymous with quality basketball
Alford had them headed back for a couple years then he bolted for UCLA...
--But in 1999 their head coach took off for Baylor and they hired Fran Fraschilla - he was a flop. After just 3 seasons they let him go and hired Ritchie McKay
-McKay never met expectations at UNM. He took them to just one post-season game with DG and it was a historic embarrassment and blowout loss...Comment

watching the ISU game - Taylor Bruninga is still on crutches - he's already been out well over a month and isn't even weight bearing.....
..he didn't play in either exhibition - and apparently didn't at their Hoopfest - so he may now be going on two months and still not able to bear weight..
what's up?

Birds game was interesting. After being lethargic like they have been this year so far the switched turned on in the second half. They were down to only five guys with everyone fouling out and Chastain badly rolling his ankle. Was a good win and could be the game that really gets them going. However they could lay a big egg Saturday and it all mean nothing.Comment

Saturday will certainly be a test for the Birds. I agree that the Redbird team that showed up in the 2nd half is the one that their fans have been expecting to see all year. Will be interesting to see if they can sustain it, but I have a feeling they will. Need to get some more people healthy. If they can get back up to 10 players they will be fine as HCDM only likes to play 8 or 9.
Pretty happy with my Aces last night too. Yeah it was only Wyoming, but the players have bought into Coach Walter's system pretty well. Played with a lot of poise which was good to see. I think you give them a year or two to get players in and they will be a much different challenge for the MVC.
As for the Bradley game, yes IUPUI is not a bad team, but the lack of poise by the Braves shocked me a bit. Probably just a blip though.Cheering with pep and vim for the white and purple!Comment
