The first big school opening since Steve Alford was fired at UCLA....

Texas A&M reportedly fires Billy Kennedy - https://twitter.com/HoustonChron/sta...91470835318785

he had only ONE losing season since 2012 but unfortunately it was this year
but just last year he went to the Sweet 16 and also was Sweet 16 in 2016.
Since 2003 (SELa, Murray State, & Texas A&M) he'd averaged 21 wins per year thru 2018 - pretty impressive!

If I am SIU this is the guy I would make a run at.

Brian Barone, who was a top assistant at UW-Green Bay with Brian Wardle, and played at Marquette with Wardle and Bargen, and who is the son of former Bradley assistant coach Tony Barone, was named the interim head coach at SIUE after another former Marquette player from the same era, Jon Harris was let go.

Jon Harris was hired at SIUE in 2015 (same time as Brian Wardle) and was signed to a 4-year contract. (LINK)
SIUE is likely one of the 10-20 worst DI schools to recruit to and win at - doubtful even Rick Pitino coulda turned that team around any better...

...but that means even by his 2nd season he was out there trying to recruit with only a short term on his existing contract
and the entire LAST YEAR he was trying to function with ZERO SECURITY and zero years ahead on his contract - a situation that makes any potential recruit pretty shaky about committing to play four more years into the future. In other words - what the hell did SIUE expect by giving Harris such a crappy deal?

None the less - they still tied for 7th in a 12-team conference and barely missed knocking off the higher seed in the 1st round.
Harris took over a disaster of a program in 2015 that hadn't had a winning season since fully moving to DI...
and Harris was steadily increasing his win total (in a gradually improving conference with VERY good teams like Belmont, Murray State, etc...)
          - keeping in mind that in Lennox Forrester's 4th season there, he won only 8 games yet was given FOUR MORE years by SIUE.

Just my two cents but I think Harris got a raw deal and wasn't given enough time. Remember - Porter Moser was canned after four years at ISU - now many ISU fans look at Porter (Coach of the Year awards and a Final Four) and wonder what might have been....

BTW - one of the kids SIUE has signed for next year has really blown up
He just scored 44 points to upset the #1 team in the state of Oklahoma then 29 in the State Championship game,
to set an all time state record of 107 points in the 3 games at State.

Saul Phillips was fired by Ohio University. Will they be calling Geno Ford?

He had a couple 20+ winning seasons, but the last 2 were sub .500 (14-17)-

And Tony Shaver is out at William & Mary

well...sorta - looks like their prime target is to try to hire Stony Brook's Jeff Boals - where Geno, who is an assistant under Boals at Stony Brook - would then probably follow Boals to Ohio and they'd get a 2-for-1!

George Washington fires Maurice Joseph after only 3 seasons. He took over from Mike Lonergan (who was fired for player abuse claims) after a 28-win season, and had a worse record each year-

UNLV relieves head coach Marvin Menzies of duties.
Will Rick Pitino's phone be ringing?

The gave Menizes only 3 years there at UNLV and he took over a disaster that was about the same as what Wardle took over here -
he had absolutely NOTHING, yet he won 20 games in the 2nd year and was 17-14 this year despite plenty of injuries.
UNLV athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois said Monday that a decision on basketball coach Marvin Menzies’ job status will be made after the season. He is in his third season at UNLV.

His best player, Shakur Juiston, a senior, missed virtually the entire season with injury and should be back - he averaged 16 pt/10 rebs as a junior

Gotta think several players and signed recruits will leave...and since Juiston is a senior, if he can get his degree he will be one of the hottest transfer targets.

The AD at Tulane is Troy Dannen who just left Northern Iowa 3 years ago to take the AD spot at Tulane
...could he be looking at luring Ben Jacobson away?
The American Athletic is a bigger conference and with their football money - Tulane could be prepared to pay him even more than what he makes now...

Tulane, btw- had a 4-star kid committed - but now he's reopening his recruitment
"Tulane lands four-star junior Elijah Wood. Highest rated commit in school history."
