  • Top SIU recruit for 2008 backs out

    Too bad for Chris Lowery.
Torres Roundtree, a 6'3" shooting guard from McCluer North high school, has de-committed from SIU.
He was a class of 2008 committment. His team won the Missouri largest class state championship, and he was their top player. He has had a good summer playing AAU, and apparently is getting interest from "bigger" schools. One such school may be Rick Majerus and St. Louis U.
Another of SIU's 2008 commits is a teammate of Roundtree's, Anthony Booker. He has also opened some eyes with his summer play. Could he be next to think he is bigger than SIU?

In an interview by Dave Telep, the top recruiting expert for Scout.com, here is what Roundtree said--
???‚¬?“I can say I want bigger but I just want to make sure my decision is the right one,???‚¬?? Roundtree said. ???‚¬?“I want to look at some other schools and meet some coaches even though I love Coach Lowery. I don???‚¬?„?t want to have tunnel vision with one school.???‚¬??
Roundtree will be in California this weekend and is going to look at USC unofficially. St. Louis, Missouri and Purdue are programs that interest him, along with Illinois State.
???‚¬?“I want to take a few visits,???‚¬?? Roundtree said. ???‚¬?“(SIU) is still the front runner.???‚¬??

if st louis gets roundtree they will have no need for nor room for matt roth.
Maybe thats what they are thinking now that roth is getting big ten offers, they have turned their sights elsewhere.

Missouri and Purdue aren't surprising to me, but to de-commit from SIU to keep his option open for Illinois State and St. Louis? I don't get that.

Suddenly including ISU is bizarre to me. There has to be more to it. There was a rumor in a St. Louis newspaper while Jankovich was looking for assistants that Mcleur(sp?) North's HC was a candidate (one of those "look for McCleur North's HC to sign on as an assistant at ISU"). I wonder if TJ and the HC made friends and now he's in Torres' ear. I wouldn't mind stealing him.

I can't see this as serious interest, but I've been shocked before.

Roundtree's HS Coach is Randy Reed. Reed and Jankovich are very close friends and played together at Kansas St. in the early 80's. There's the connection. Reed was rumored to have been a candidate for an ISU assistant position, but it never materialized.

If Roundtree is even thinking remotely of ISU, it must be only to appease his HS coach. I think he still ends up at SIU or perhaps somewhere else, but ISU? I can't see that ever happening.

              Thanks Danny

              Thanks Danny,
The crazy convuluted path of HS to College often makes
not that much sense. Thanks for putting that out.

ISU I didn't go there but my little brother did. I am a bit
tired of making fun of little brother.

Now there is speculation on the Saluki board that one other 2008 SIU recruit could be backing out, as a thread discusses Chris Parrish.....
The discussion is quite vague, as if nobody wants to say what's up for sure....
As you recall, they were already a couple over the scholarship limit, so we knew someone was going to go...

He has been dropped from their Scholarship Grid along with Torres Roundtree

Here are some of our priior posts about Parrish

I recall Jim Les liked Chris Parrish and was recruiting him for BU.

There is also talk on both the St. Louis board and the Illinois board that SIUs top big man recruit,
Brett Thompson is also reconsidering his committment, and that the Roundtree decommit was a mutual parting.
Also, the Billiken fans are still worried that Kwamain Mitchell, one of their best recruits could be reconsidering. http://www.billikens.com/dcforum/DCF...3/13435.html#8
