Veritas is clobbering Virginia Academy - leading by 17 with 3 minutes to go -
Gabriel was the team scoring leader at the half with 9 but Molinar now has 27
they will be the unofficial, undefeated winner of the Chick-fil-A Classic

            Veritas wins 77-67
Stephan Gabriel with 8-14, 23 points, 5 rebs, 3 steals
            Molinar had 33

Gabriel reminds me of Theron Wilson with a slightly bigger upper body - decent 3-point shooter (he was 2-5 today)
and a very good rebounder but likes to play away from the basket...handles the ball fairly well and plays backup PG

Amazing championship game at the State Farm Classic...
neck & neck all the way then a steal in the final minute by Rock island and they go up 58-55...but in the final 27 seconds Kenwood scored twice to tie and send to OT

                    Update IMO on Stephan Gabriel

I watched the entire video of Stephans & Veritas Preps last game....Here's what I saw:
Stephan was not impressive...Perhaps he just had a bad game but he was not much of a factor at all. He had problems hanging onto the ball and his overall athleticism was disappointing. I hope I am wrong but seeing is believing.

I have watched several videos of his prep games, both at Hillcrest and Veritas. Let's just say we don't agree on this. This is purely my opinion, so I could be wrong. But I have talked to an individual on our coaching staff who agrees with me on this.

He is essentially still a high school kid playing against some of the best prep school teams in the country loaded with D1-level talent, and he is still a bit raw, and will benefit from coaching and more time to develop. He is not the featured player on his team. There are 2 or 3 of his teammates who get more shots than Stephan. If he played on a normal high school team, he would be the star and would put up much bigger numbers. He has an extremely developed physique already, is a legitimate 6'6" or 6'7", can handle the ball well enough to play point guard, passes well, is a good shooter and rebounds well. He is capable of playing all 5 positions effectively, though he will probably play the 3 at Bradley.
He consistently puts up 10-20 points (he had 23 his last game) against some of the best recruits in the country who are being recruited by the top colleges. He is the kind of player that teams like Bradley and other MVC teams don't usually land.
If he does end up at Bradley, and I expect him to, IMO, he will be the best recruit we've gotten in years, and I expect him to contribute immediately.

Gabriel was also commonly matched up and defending bigger players..and did a good job...
against Legacy - he guarded Rodney Howard and held the guy to just 6 pts.
Howard is a big time Top 150 6-11 recruit headed to the SEC.
he's not a great shooter but his size allows him to get decent shots over smaller defenders

I recall we had similar concern about Elijah Childs since he was not a huge scorer in high school- https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...-tracker/page7

In the ESPN2 game, Antonio Thomas does a great job running the offense and he's under control all the time - something you can't say about most of the other players..
