  • Jamar Smith

John Supinie has an article in today's Peoria Journal Star that mentions Jamar. Not really anything new, just that a resolution is expected to be decided by mid August, more than 6 months after the accident.
Also a mention that Michael Jordan has been on campus at Illinois twice already this summer to visit his walkon son Jeffrey.

If he's already been to Champaign twice in the brief time Jeffrey has been there working out, I wonder if he'll keep visiting for the games this winter, when Jeffrey is glued to the bench? Or will Weber feel pressured to play him with Michael sitting in the stands?

As this Jamar story plays out, it is clear to me the delay is for two reasons.
To make it look like they took a long hard look into the situation, and to delay the decision long enough to get downwind from the negative press and vibes and give the impression that cutting him loose too late in the summer would make it impossible for Jamar to go anywhere else.
So look for an announcement well into August saying they spent countless hours agonizing over the decision, and that it was out of Weber's hands, and that the kid will be penalized all the non-conference games but be eligible for most of all of the conference games, as he has suffered enough.
He really is a good kid who just made a mistake.
