Drake gets a committment

No news yet on any Bradley committments. But here is another one for the MVC.

Alex Weldon, a 6'3" forward from Linn-Mar High School in Iowa committed to Drake. He will probably play guard at Drake. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.2 rebounds last year as a reserve. --

It reports that he came off the bench for his team last year, which won the Iowa 4-A state championship. He was ready to commit because Drake is close to home and his family can watch him play. Also, he considers the MVC a high level of play.
Drake was his only offer so far.


One other committment of interest--
Malachi Peay, a 6'5" guard/forward from Campus Magnet High School, Cambria Heights, NY, who was once listed as being recruited by Bradley, has committed to Maine.

The rumor I've been hearing is that Weldon will walk on his first year at DU.

His statistics are very meager, but Linn-Mar has had a bunch of D-1 players playing the same position the past few years....Bohannon (Wisconsin), Printy (Indiana State) and Grant Gibbs who just commited to Gonzaga are all guys who Weldon has had to compete with for playing time. I've seen him described as a tremendous athlete.

Drake desperately needs inside help, so most of the DU fans were not thrilled to hear about yet another guard.

No disrespect at all intended toward this kid or DU, but this is a little underwhelming. It does make me so glad to have JL on board . . . BU is recruiting at a level right now where a commitment like this would cause quite a stir (not in a good way). That said, there's no telling the potential of this kid.

Believe me when I tell you that Drake fans have been very underwhelmed by this commitment.
