  • Dave Reynolds PJ Star article 7-27-07

Mostly about the Gus Macker tournament this weekend in Washington. JJ Tauai will be playing in the top men's division with Todd Peterson, and Mitch Gilfillan.

Also, the Tournament of Champions Classic, held last November at the Robertson Fieldhouse, will be held this fall at Pekin and Washington high schools.

Finally, Dave reports that Matt Roth's coach, Kevin Brown, says "I spoke to Coach (Kelvin) Sampson and he led me to believe they're going to offer Matt". This differs slightly from other internet reports that suggest that Roth did receive an offer from Indiana.

According to the macker player/team list, Tauai isn't playing.

Peterson's team includes Gilfillan (Notre Dame/Lehigh) Chris Tarpley (Pekin/Eureka) and Mike Fischman(Cooper City, FL/Lehigh).

Maybe Tauai was a late substitute...

"led me to believe they are going to..."
is a whole lot different than "did offer".

I hope MR understands that BU's offer is not such doublespeak...

You can't ever trust those top men's rosters until the game starts. Because it's an open division, you can make roster changes right up to the start of the tournament w/o penalty.
I know of two teams playing on top men's that are not even listed on the Gus Macker website.

I've never played on top mens (not even close) and didn't know it was an open division.
          Thanks for the clarification.
