Just curious what you guys think. How many stars would he lose and how far would he drop in the rankings if he actually signed with BU?? We've all seen how that works.
I don't think he would drop much at all. Also, having Iman verbal to BU would give Les & Co. huge momentum for recruiting in 2009.
I also like the idea of bringing in Hersey in August to help seal the deal, as well as AP, Cellus, POB and don't forget JJ Anderson. Bring out all the big guns!!!
Shumpert is not considering Illinois, and is tired of being harrassed by idiot Illini fans. Why anyone would harass a kid for not going to a school is just beyond comprehension, but this isn't the first time nor the last time. My advice to Illini Nation would be focus on the real issue at hand, which is the inability of the current coaching staff to land the caliber of players it should be landing instead of harrassing a kid who obviously doesn't want to go to school there.

I seem to recall reports that Jon Scheyer, and perhaps other recent Illinois prep stars have also gotten some of this same harassment for their decisions.

That type of thing never happens at any other program.

I'm sure it does, but over the course of the past two years, this is the second kid who has been harassed by Illinois fans, and that's really sad. I love Bradley basketball as much as everyone else, but if Shumpert decides to go to Marquette or UNC it wouldn't even cross my mind to call him and harass him about it. And from the time I've spent on here and around other fans, I don't really think anyone from BU would do something like that.

Sure it does Bert and if we lived close to where it happened we'd be discussing it about THAT University. Illinois is just more relevant since its our state Univ.
The thing we must keep in mind IMO is that these comments are coming MOSTLY from college kids. They can be harsh and quite idiotic at times.
As a society we put SO much importance on sports it really shouldn't surprise us.
I don't think you'll see that...in fact I am positive you won't see that from Bradley fans. NOT that we have some special genetic makeup but for a variety of other reasons.
Our Mods wouldn't allow it and We have less college posters to name a few reasons.
BU's fanbase is a bit older than most and its reflected in a more civil tone and rhetoric.
Actually, it doesn't happen often elsewhere. Maybe Indiana, after they lost some of their best recent recruits to out of state schools, but I actually don't remember hearing that players like Greg Oden, Josh McRoberts, Dominic James, etc. were harassed.
I wouldn't be surprised if some did happen because I recall how disappointed Indiana fans were that they didn't land those players. But the IU fans mostly took out their frustrations on their coach, Mike Davis
But I am not aware of it being a phenomenton that is seen in other states quite like here in Illinois where fans seem to think it is their birthright to get the top Illinois kids every year.
I remember Shaun Livingston being harrassed after going to school in an IL jersey the day before he announced he was going to Duke & then jumping ship for the NBA.
Sorry. But our censorship committee has ruled that i*d*i*o*t is too often used on bulletin boards as an insult hurled at another poster. Thus the ban on that term.
"Pissed off" comes close to unacceptable vulgarity, and that was debated for a while by the committee. But, believe it or not, it is now listed in many dictionaries as a legitimate term.
