What happened to Prop 48. Is it still in effect? The portion I never here any more is kids that are partial qualifiers and go to a four year school but can't play for a year ala Ruffin. I guess it is not in effect any more?

The rule is still in effect, but it has been modified. It is no loger called prop 48. But kids who do not fully qualify can still go to the college of their choice, but have to pay their own way for the 1st year, achieve a minimum academic standing defined by the NCAA, and cannot play or practice with the team for that year. If they accomplish that, they become eligible for their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years. One of the changes was that if they maintain good academic standing and graduate in 4 years, they can get their 4th season of eligibility back like Ruffin did. -
So financial considerations must be the major stumbling block for most kids? Otherwise I would think it may be done instead of JUCO for more kids. Especially now that they seem to be cracking down on prep schools.Comment

Yes, it is usually kids who can't afford to pay their own way.
Daniel's situation was different than most in another way. I believe Daniel had actually retaken the SAT 3 more times after his initial low score, and achieved similar, passing scores all 3 times. The test scores and his high school grades were quite good enough to be admitted to Bradley, but were not accepted by the NCAA because of the rise in the test score. So he lost his appeal and had to forfeit his scholarship and sit out that first year.Comment
