  • Missouri suspends leading rebounder Kalen Grimes

Kalen Grimes, Missouri's leading rebounder last season, was suspended indefinitely by head coach Mike Anderson. He was involved in a 3 am altercation with another man in Florissant, Missouri over this past weekend.
According to the Florissant Police Department no warrant has been issued for Grimes???‚¬?„? arrest yet, but he is accused of third-degree assault and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. Grimes is accused of hitting another person in the face with the butt of a shotgun.

We'll see how strong a disciplinarian Mike Anderson is. If he goes by the Bruce Weber-Chris Lowery school of discipline, he'll suspend him for a couple of meaningless early season exhibition games next November.

This comes on the heels of another embarrassing event involving a different Missouri basketball played who was shot recently. Anderson had instituted a zero-tolerance policy after forward DeMarre Carroll was shot in the ankle in downtown Columbia last week. Carroll had attended what was a private party at the Tropicana Bar. He was involved in a disagreement outside the bar. Carroll, the nephew of Anderson, was not suspended.

And a couple other basketball-related crime reports

Antoine Walker of the Miami Heat was robbed at gunpoint in his home. This is reportedly the 2nd time recently this has happened.
If I were his insurance agent, I'd do a little checking.

Brandon Powell, former guard at Florida is set to transfer to Marshall and soon as the felony drug charges are plea bargained to a misdemeanor.

University of Washington junior forward Artem Wallace will not be charged with criminal offense in a hit-and-run accident in which he was involved.
He was not one of the drivers, but there was alcohol involved and he was in the car that
"sped off without stopping to render aid or exchange information, according to a witness ...... then lost control about a block north and hit a parked car.
Witnesses described two men opening the trunk of the car and placing several items into a backpack, and putting the backpack in nearby bushes before running off. The backpack was later discovered, and contained several beers and bottles of alcohol, according to the report.
Two police officers arrived soon after the men left the scene of the accident and saw them running north on Alki. When the police officers got out of their car and ordered the two to stop, the pair continued to run before being caught and placed in custody.
The police report described both men as ???‚¬?“extremely intoxicated.???‚¬??

Wallace was NOT 21 at the time of the drinking/accident, and as you might have guessed, head coach Lorenzo Romar is saying the issue is all but closed and the kid may receive "some sort of in-house discipline". http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...02_umen10.html

Maybe I am naive, but to me carrying a couple of loaded weapons in your car at a restaurant/bar at 3AM, and then getting into a fight and getting arrested for attacking a guy with the butt of a shotgun, well, this is just way different than a guy who fails a drug test.
It is also way different than a guy with a DUI.
This kid must be jettisoned and fast.
Wasn't it just a couple days ago one of the other Missouri players got shot at 1:30AM at a bar while drinking underage?
The Iliini went right down to the wire in recruiting Grimes, and al most had him.
Wouldn't that have been a gas if Kalen was an Illini hitting people with his shotgun while the rest of the Illini are getting DUIs.

I guess the police are agreeing with you meth.
Now we'll have to wait and see if the coach also takes it as seriously.

They are preparing a warrant and the charges are expected to include
felony aggravated assault with the use of a firearm, with possible prison sentences of up to 5 years if convicted.
Grimes assaulted a man with the butt of a shotgun, and also had another loaded handgun in his car.

          More details-
Mike Grimes, the brother of Kalen Grimes and a former Creighton basketball player, was also involved in this incident.
And what is more troubling is that the Grimes brothers were not at the fight when it started, but responded to a phone call from their cousin, Ryan Fisher, who started a fight with another man over a girlfriend. The Grimes' then got into their car and drove to the Jack-in-the-Box to get involved. Kalen Grimes got out of his car with his loaded shotgun, pumped it a couple times, then struck the man in the forehead with the butt of the gun. Mike Grimes was then hit in the head with a lugwrench.

Kalen Grimes has been charged with felony assault. And Missouri coach Mike Anderson has announced he has been suspended indefinitely.

I wonder why he didn't take the Bruce Weber approach and allow the entire legal process to play out before applying any punishment, then claiming it was out of his hands and that the player had suffered enough.
