  • Ray Brown and J Fears

Maybe I just didnt pay any attention recently but does anyone has any idea on where these two might be heading?? I feel like I missed out on where they might be going but perhaps no word is out yet

Can't find the post, but I remember a rumor connecting Fears to a D2 program, which is about all he can do since he's already used his redshirt year.

Haven't heard anything at all about Ray Brown... His eligibility is kinda funny because of the suspension, but I think he could redshirt/transfer and go to another D1 program as a junior.

Can Brown actually still play? When he first tested for marajuana, wasn't he suspended for a year? So, since he tested positive again, wouldn't the NCAA either suspend him another year or ban him all together?

The NCAA would only get involved if the 2nd positive test was at a NCAA event, which it was not. So Ray Brown will not be suspended or penalized any more by the NCAA. If he transfers to another Div I school, he has to sit out another year as all such transfers do. He can use his redshirt year with such a Div I transfer, but he would then be a junior with 2 years of eligibility left. He will not get back his sophomore year that he was suspended.
I haven't heard what he will do. He might transfer to a Div II school. There are a couple very good DII schools in Minnesota, Winona State, and Minnesota State-Mankato, that he could resurface at.

I also haven't heard anything definite about Fears. He was rumored to be looking into professional opportunities overseas. But a Div II transfer seems more likely to me.

If I was Fears, I would just head to a JC for a year and then back to D1. Unless I remember incorrectly, he played one year at Ohio and then sat out last year at Bradley right? He could go to JC, play this year and then head to a D1 school with two to play two.

Fears started his sophomore year at Ohio. He would have been a junior in the fall at BU if he hung around. If he sticks with the college game, he'll be starting year four in a five year window.

This isn't quite correct. First, Fears has already spent 3 years at a Div I school. The NCAA has rules governing transfers, and it's isn't allowed after more than 2 years of eligibility have elapsed at a 4-year school, to return to a juco. Also, players have just 5 years to get all 4 years of eligibility in. If Fears sat out another year, which he would be unable to redshirt since he used his redshirt season at Bradley (or went to juco), he would only have 1 year of eligibility anyway. So he realistically has few options. He needs to go to a Div II or NAIA school if he wants to play 2 years.
