  • The Early Preseason All-MVC Team

Anyone want to predict who they think will get voted as All MVC in the preseason?

It was difficult last year as over a dozen players received some preseason attention.
Here is some of the discussion from last season

The official 2006-2007 MVC Preseason First Team of
    Nate Funk (POY)
    Anthony Tolliver
    Blake Ahearn
    Grant Stout
    Jamaal Tatum
    Tony Young

Was pretty accurate, as the final postseason voting went like this:
2007 All-Missouri Valley Conference Men???‚¬?„?s Basketball Team - First Team
    Blake Ahearn, Missouri State
    Randal Falker, Southern Illinois
    Nate Funk, Creighton
    Jamaal Tatum, Southern Illinois
    Anthony Tolliver, Creighton

Who would you select for the 2007-2008 Preseason teams?

    Here are my picks..........

    2007-2008 First Team All Conference:
    Daniel Ruffin
    Jeremy Crouch
    Eric Coleman
    Randall Falker
    PJ Couisnard

      Coleman
      Falker
      Couisnard
      Daniel Ruffin
      JC

I duno if they'll put two guys from BU on the team, but I can't think of anyone else, maybe Watts? He's going to have to be a big time producer if Creighton is going to do well this season.

Here's what some of my Redbird friends are telling me-
Osiris Eldridge, Anthony Slack, Boo Richardson, Dinma Odiakosa, and Dom Johnson.

Seriously, I think if either Crouch or Ruff is left off, then a serious injustice has been done.
JC led the nation for crying out loud, and Ruffin may be a legit pick for preseason MVC-POY.
After that, then it's Falker and Coleman for sure and the final spot goes to one of several (Cousinard, Dyer, Watts, Eldridge, Richards, Holsinger) who are in the running.

No offense to the ISU readers but OE over anyone else mentioned here would be pretty... well wrong. He may finish the year and be there. But to say he one of the top 5 in the MVC currently? No way.

I think OE might have a decent shot to make 1st team or 2nd team all conference by the end of the year. He scored 11.5ppg and 5.7rpg as a freshmen in conference. His numbers actually got better as the year went on. It all depends on how much better he got over the summer and how he fits into the new coach's system.

I think Coleman will have a monster year at UNI and be the POY.

I'm looking forward to seeing how many assists Ruffin can get this year. If any of these new guys can score in the post, he'll have some impressive numbers.

Faulkner, Shaw and Cousinard round out my preseason picks.

He may by the end of the year, JC would have had he been healthy all of last year. But there's no way JC should have been a preseason All MVC.

My point is All MVC shouldn't really be based on potential, I know to some degree it should be, but it just can't be too much. If it were based on potenetial last year Greg Oden should have been All-Big Ten preseason, without playing a game.

                D Ruff
                JC
                Falker
                Coleman (Preseason POY)
Funk (Coming back for his 12th season of eligibility)
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

I think your MVC first team pre-season will be:

                      Falker
                      Coleman
                      Ruffin
                      Dyer
                      Cousinard

The others in the discussion are JC, Watts, and Shaw.
