  • Jamar Decision Reportedly Final

The Illinois Rivals PREMIUM board has a discussion about the final decision on Jamar Smith.

Reportedly the decision has been made, it's been finalized, and Jamar Smith's grandfather is already talking about it.
Paul Klee, who covers the Illini for the Champaign News-Gazette has apparently reported on this today, although
the News-Gazette website still has only yesterday's reports online.

Many posters believe Jamar will sit out this coming year with or without scholarship. He could be allowed to travel and practice with the team. He may then be eligible to return for the 2008-09 season.
We will await the actual official decision.

By the way....here is a picture of Jamar and his new baby

I have heard that he will redshirt this year and return in '08-'09.

So he doesn't lose a year of eligibility, and gets to travel with the team and sit on the bench. Real tough punishment.

Jeez, I'm starting to sound like T and MM

I am not claiming it to be fact yet, it's just what I heard first thing this morning from an Illini insider. I would agree that Jamar would be extremely fortunate if that was the 'punishment'.
        Onward and Upward!

This is a travesty of a mockery of a sham! So what is the final decision?

So what part is the actual punishment ???? Are kids at school going to be teasing him on the playground....red shirt red shirt your a silly red shirt. I mean come on. How about LOSING an actual year of eligibility.

This is NO, NADA, ZILCH, void of anything that resembles punishment.

Jeesh....and we wonder why so many coddled sports stars continue to break the law.

They have NOTHING to worry about. My "status" as a sports star trumps all.

Last season Jamar shot 11% from 3 point range.
Here is a quote that might explain-
"Smith reported typically consuming a pint of Jose Cuervo tequila three times a week"

The year after Richard McBride shot 30% on 3 pointers, he got caught with a DUI and then this quote-
"McBride drank a fifth of tequila"

I think all those Illini outside shooting woes are a bit more understandable.

Let's not be naive, tequila sales in Champaign are roughly on par with deodorant sales on Indiana's campus!
Do a google search for "Illini" and "tequila" and get 69,000+ hits
with lots of them about Jamar and McBride, but a lot of them have to do with
Tequila parties that appear to be about as common at UIUC as squirrels on campus, and in fact,
Illinois is somewhat world famous for their "Tacos and Tequila" parties that are
officially sponsored and promoted by sororities and fraternities on campus.
(btw-- tequila sales are up over 10% in the US this year alone, Jamar and Rich should be given a commission!)

It seems you think people shouldn't have an opinion on this. Has Jamar Smith yet had any punishment by Bruce Weber?
Don't say he was suspended, because his "leave" from the team last year was decribed as voluntary. There was never any punishment, and he even stayed with the team and sat on the bench. It truly is a travesty when a kid can break the law repeatedly (underage drinking, and DUI), flaunt the team rules, cause someone severe injury, leave the scene of the accident, then leave his teammate for dead, and then be treated by the team like he himself is the victim and welcomed back.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

His punishment is clear, Dogs- He has to stay at U of I and play for Weber!!
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

                        Haha - that's funny Braveman.

I was kinda wondering about this, though... maybe Weber has offered him to stay, redshirt this season... BUT... he has to stay dry... one drop of booze and he gets the boot.

It looks like there are some college coaches that don't stand for their players breaking the law. Jeff Capel, coach at Oklahoma, dismissed one of his incoming recruits quickly after he was arrested for trespassing. Heck, that's not even a felony!

The Oklahoman is the number one source for Oklahoma City breaking news, politics, business, sports, entertainment and obituaries.

Don't even go there girlfriend. Either you misinterpreted my response or stand to put words in my mouth. Opine away. Seems to me alot of people are passing judgment on a decision that hasn't been made, or the outcome released. Weber has been pretty consistant in his approach to team disipline. The next guy to come along may play it differently, perhaps more in line with your views. Perhaps we could employ the wisdom of Solomon and cut the boy in half. Bert does not have the answers that you seek.

Webber has been consistant with disipline he doesn't use any.
