  • Billy Packer

    In response to Billy Packer:

The Big East is far overrated.
There are numerous mid-majors who can play with these guys.
    UConn loses as a #1 seed to a mid-major.
Villanova is granted a #1 seed and is struggling against Florida.

All of Billy's precious ACC teams are GONE!
In fact they were all gone far sooner than the Missouri Valley teams were, and none made it past the Sweet Sixteen.

Billy--the BCS schools are way, way overrated, especially the Big East and the ACC.
I think the SEC has proved themselves easily on par with the ACC and Big East, and the midmajors took 4 of the Sweet Sixteen spots.
UCLA barely squeaked by a midmajor also.

And Billy Packer's own alma mater, Wake Forest got to play the 9th place team in the Big Ten and still got busted!!

Even in the NIT, little guys like Manhattan have to go to Maryland and still they show who's better!!
The only thing that kept 2 or 3 midmajors from being in the NIT Final Four was that they designed the brackets on purpose to put all the best midmajors in the same bracket.
Old Dominion, Hofstra, and Manhattan were all in the same bracket.
Creighton was absolutely robbed by horrible reffing to keep them out, and Missouri State knocked off loudmouth Houston coach Tom Penders in Houston!!

This has been a truly sweet year for the teams that have perennially gotten no respect!!

I demand a bit more consideration be given to midmajors next year.
Maybe SIX bids for the MVC, and at least FOUR for the CAA.
Come on, now, let's hear a little crow eating by Billy & Digger!!

If anyone is watching the Florida/Nova game, then you just saw and heard what I heard that proves Billy Packer is a total DUNCE.
After a missed Florida shot the ball was tipped long and recovered by a Florida player near midcourt.
Of course after a shot and a tipped rebound-loose ball, there would be NO OVER AND BACK and anyone could go after the ball anywhere on the floor. Most grade school kids know that one, Billy.
BUT Packer wails about how smart the Florida kid was to get back in the front court before grabbing the ball to avoid the violation.
I hope the guy just retires.
His knowledge and opinions never cease to annoy and surprise us with their stupidity.

As much as I hate B Packer, I heard him say 2 things in the closing moments of the Florida/Villa game that shocked me:

      1) In his response to no #1 seeds making it to the Final 4, he said that 'this is great for college basketball'.

      2) Answering Nantz question of how this tourney ranks amongst tourneys in the past, Packer thought it was the best.

But wouldn't they always hype the present tourney since they're still trying to sell advertising time?

More on Billy Packer admitting he was wrong. He still can't quite come out and make a clean admission, he has to qualify his stupidity by saying a lot of other people didn't pick the midmajors to advance.
No, Billy, nobody made quite as big a fool of themselves as you. You were the only one saying the teams from the MVC and the CAA did not deserve to even be in the NCAA.

Apparently just about everyone but Billy Packer want to see more of the little guys get into the NCAA Tournament, and are willing to even change the entire tourney format to see it happen.

READ the 4th paragraph where Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim specifically says he wants more teams in the tourney like George Mason who some didn't want in the tourney at all!!

"Another factor in favor of expansion is George Mason's success.....

The Patriots ... were no lock to be in the field on selection Sunday.

Coaches believe the number of good teams has grown significantly. And why, they argue, should a team like George Mason be left out?

"There are deserving teams," said Purnell, who previously coached at Dayton. "George Mason could easily have been left out of the tournament. Obviously, they're a deserving team. If you expand it, you decrease the possibility of leaving out more deserving teams."

            Right on!!
