  • SLU AD resigning, taking job at Maryland

Not much of a surprise after the Soderberg firing/Majerus hiring situation. It was pretty obvious Levick and Father Biondi didn't see eye to eye. Then again, not many people at SLU seem to see eye to eye with him.

The same situation that drove Levick to leave may make it difficult to find a successor. Potential replacements will no doubt want to know if they are fully in charge of the athletic department and how much Biondi will be involved. The handling of the Soderberg firing will raise serious questions about who???‚¬?„?s in charge.

    Scouter, this is a fiasco...

The president of the University, one of the Jesuit priests who is administrator and overseer of the academic end of things, took full control of the athletic dept. by firing the prior head basketball coach over the objections of the AD, then hiring Rick Majerus and not even letting the AD have a word to say about it.

In effect, the Rev. stripped the AD of all power and was going to give her the boot anyway.

I hope Matt Roth notes this and realizes the same thing could happen in a blink if Rick Majerus runs afoul of the most Rev. L. Biondi, an ex-Chicagoan and Loyola grad.

I don't think it's any secret (at least in St. Louis circles) that Father Biondi runs quite the dictatorship at SLU. That university will be a better place when he's gone or decides to let loose on his stranglehold of the athletics department.
