  • Iman Shumpert News

Fresh from a really great performance at the NBPA National Camp, Iman Shumpert has spoken to some of the national recruiting gurus and issues a statement about his college choices.

He is rated #15 in the nation, and has said his present list includes:
"Marquette, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Bradley, and Notre Dame"
(he did NOT mention Illinois, DePaul, nor any other school that's been trying to get in on him lately like UNC)

He indicates no more schools will be added to the list and he is not interested in the schools that are trying to get in late on him.

His final statement was that he would not cut down the list further for a few months:

"(Shumpert said) ...he will cut his list down in August."

Wow....pretty impressive that BU makes the cut with the likes of Marquette, Wisconsin, and ACC schools, but Shumpert now appears to have DROPPED ILLINOIS!

Yikes, I just got a call from one of my Illini friends who tells me that Shumpert ABSOLUTELY has not eliminated Illinois, and is actually leaning towards them.

I have no idea how to explain the discrepancy, but here is the original link to the article I cited, and the exact cut and paste comment:

Stay up to date with all the College sports news, recruiting, transfers, and more at 247Sports.com

      (Wisconsin scout/Insiders)

"Iman Shumpert: Will trim list in August"

"Iman Shumpert, a 6-4 shooting guard from Oak Park & River Forest High School in Illinois, lists Marquette, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Bradley, and Notre Dame.
Shumpert, ranked the #15 player in the Class of 2008 by Scout.com, will cut his list down in August."

      >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Here is a quote from an article two weeks ago:

"???‚¬?“I???‚¬?„?m going out to Clemson next Thursday and then I???‚¬?„?ll end at Georgia Tech either Friday or Saturday,???‚¬?? Shumpert told Scout.com.
      Recently, he tripped to Marquette."

"One of the big questions surrounding Shumpert deals with who is actually in good shape on his list. In the past, he???‚¬?„?s rattled off Illinois, Bradley, Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Tennessee and Wisconsin in addition to the schools he???‚¬?„?s visited.

However, a hot spring has led to multitudes of increasing interest from big name programs across the nation. ???‚¬?“North Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington State, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Kansas,???‚¬?? Shumpert said in response to who is attempting to get into the mix.

The plan is simple: trim the list to 6 programs soon and go from there."

Sounds to me like he's done just as he planned, except he left 7 on his present list instead of six, as he said in early June.

In another, absolutely HOT, fresh interview with the lead writer for Illinois Rivals, Shumpert gives a long interview, talks about his week at the NBPA Camp, and lots of other issues.

But...notably, he says very little about his recruitment, and knowing he is talking to the Illinois/Rivals guy, he puts his statement in a very, very intriguing way...........

        >>>>>>>>>>>
"This is the first time I ever met Mike (Dunnigan)"
"We talked about a couple of schools in the Midwest. Illinois popped up, and Northwestern popped up."

"Basketball goes on the back burner for a couple of days now, as Iman is reaching an important date .....The 26th is my birthday," Shumpert said. "I'll finally turn 17. On June 29th I've got a camp, and then July 6th through the 10th I'll be out at the LeBron Camp, and I'll wrap up my summer events at the tournament down in Orlando."

Shumpert says he is inching closer to making a decision as he has taken a few visits recently and has narrowed it down a little.

"I'm working on it," Shumpert said. "I'm close, real close. I have it down to seven schools, but I want to get it down to five before I make it public."

In the past, Shumpert has listed schools such as Illinois, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Marquette, and Bradley, to name a few."

        So, there it is......
-Shumpert told the Illinois writer (Brad Sturdy)
essentially the same as he told the scout/Insider writer (Drew Cannon).
He said he has already cut his list down to 7 schools and is working on getting it to five.

-and he clearly DID NOT say Illinois was or was not on the list and almost seems to go to lengths to avoid answering or commenting on Illinois. I find that unusual knowing he is talking to the Illinois guy and knowing Brad wants to hear him say"Illinois"...but he doesn't.

-the final comment about Illinois was NOT part of this interview, and note it was just a mention that he had included Illinois in the past. The only mention of "Illinois" was that the name "popped up"....?

BTW--- many of the comments by fans on the premium Illini board say they would prefer to get Suggs.

Suggs may even have more talent than Shumpert, which is a matter of debate. But I don't know many top tier kids that have the character of Shumpert. In my opinion if I'm a coach at any school, he's my top recruit a top 15 player that is respectful, doesn't play games(see not listing U of I to a Illini guy), and loyal. I don't think BU can sign this guy, but I'll be a fan of him wherever he goes. Now, I do hope every day he goes to BU.

Agreed. Hope we get him, but everything I read about him makes me a general fan of his no matter what school he chooses.

Iman Shumpert is now getting recruiting interest from North Carolina, and it may be too good to ignore.
After refusing to talk to Kansas coaches because they were trying to get in on his recruiting late, Shumpert has been quoted as saying, "I am thinking about letting UNC in".

This may have been listed before on another thread but I thought I'd add it here anyway; they have him listed #11 SG prospect in nation.

An excerpt: Iman Shumpert was doing what he does best. The Chicago suburb kid was a precision artist from the perimeter hitting long balls. His shots didn't touch any part of the rim and popped the bottom of the net. The four-star guard is an efficient pick and roll artist. Shumpert is tapping into the minds of the coaches and pro players here and maximizing his experience.
