  • St. Louis Gets Shooting Guard Commit

And it is not Matt Roth.
Apparently Rick Majerus is not going to wait any longer for Matt Roth to decide.
Majerus has offered and received a commitment from Femi John.
John is a 6-4 shooting guard- Class of 2008- from right near St. Louis. (Florissant, Mo)
This is a tough loss for Missouri State and UNI who had him at the top of their lists.

I don't know about Missouri State, but UNI was out of scholarships for 2008 about 4 weeks ago when they got a commit from John Moran of Algonquin.

      St. Louis now has
FOUR 2007 recruits (Eberhardt, Eckerle, Anthony Mitchell, Relphorde)
FOUR 2008 recruits (Reed, Thompson, Kwamain Mitchell, John)

and they also have apparently at least 4 players who will be there through 2008-2009 (Lisch, Liddell, Maguire, Knollmeyer)

That means they would have only one scholarship left for 2008, and they are hotly going after Mike Suggs, John Brandenburg, and Marcus Denmon.
They will need more size, so will they go for yet another small player or a big man?

St. Louis now has only two scholarships to give. One
of those is being held for Scott Suggs in case he decides to
commit to St. Louis.Essentially there is only one scholarship
left at St. Louis University for Roth to grab.He needs to act
quickly if St. Louis is really where he wants to go because
they're giving out a scholarship about every week and a half.
I think Bradley's odds of landing Roth Just went up quite a
bit with the commitment of Femi John to St. Louis university.

The rumble on the Billikens board is that Roth must have balked and is no longer interested with
Majerus going hard this past couple days to get John.

St. Louis might just go for a little more size, and this guy is also one of their targets.

You wonder if Roth were to call JL about coming to BU if our scholarship offer is still on the table?

FWIW...one poster on redbird board says he has heard its between SIU and WSU not BU or SLU.

He also questions "what is it about BU the Roth doesn't like".

I don't know if Roth doesn't "like" BU if he didn't why would he still have us on his short list, my guess is he might be wondering if the pressure of playing close to home is something thats weighing on his mind.

While thats TOTAL specualtion on my part the pressure on JC didn't seem to stop him from leading the nation in three's last year.

Again...total specualtion on my part. I REALLY expected him to go to SLU...he STILL may. Good luck wherever he decides to go.

I also didn't see any threads on the WSU board talking about MR. You would think there would be some discussion about him?

Here was another thread about Femi John--

John is an incredibly athletic player, but not a very good shooter (28% on threes as a junior).
I think Majerus would still like to have Matt Roth.
But I have heard that one reason Roth may be balking at the SLU offer is that Majerus likes to have his recruits redshirt their freshman year, especially when they are not the most athletic players. I suspect Roth does not want to commit to redshirting this far away from starting his college career.
He was planning to visit Wichita State, and then I think he'll make a decision. I think Bradley is still in very good shape.

Still thinking its between BU and SLU for Matt......I think he was leaning to SLU a little more, but this could change that.....

How many of the players they will have in 2008 are guards or wing players?
By my count eight, so will they need Roth in 2008?
I suspect you are right DC, he will be asked to redshirt.

More breaking news that might just have an affect on Matt Roth...

First, one of St. Louis' recruits for 2008, a big kid named John Brandenburg (6-10 from St. Louis DeSmet) has just committed to Stanford. He is ranked #83 nationally in Class of 2008.
So SLU is now out of the picture for Brandenburg, but it is actually a bigger loss for Mizzou and Wisconsin who were really strong after the kid.

Second, Scott Suggs has just narrowed his list of choices...
and he has dropped St. Louis from his quoted choice list:
"Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Washington, Clemson, Florida, and Kansas are all in the mix with Missouri recruiting him the hardest"

So SIU and St. Louis Univ. are now apparently off Suggs' list.

This may have been the one thing Matt Roth and Rick Majerus have been waiting for, as I have to believe as long as Majerus had a shot at Suggs, he didn't want to give his final 2008 scholarship away to Roth. But now, if this is true and Suggs has dropped SLU, then Majerus will turn his full attention to Roth, and Matt may make his decision soon!

Is it bad I'm not sure I want him to, because I like Matt, but I'm not sure we can't do better. I kinda like that hes waiting, it gives JL some time to look for other options, but still leaves the possibility that he could come here.
