Ex-BU Recruit wins DII National Championship

Winona State University (MN) won the NCAA D-II National Champioship yesterday.
They were big underdogs but beat Virginia Union 73-61

John Smith from Johnsburg who led his high school team to the Class AA Quarterfinals in 2003, is on the Winona State team, along with one of his high school teammates, Shane Neiss.
Smith was at one time being recruited by BU.

I remember John Smith. He visited Bradley and was at a home game a couple years ago. He was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

John Smith and Johnsburg had a great run to State, but laid an egg at State in the quarterfinals. One of the players from Downers Grove had more points than the Johnsburg team.

Winona State also has a former Creighton player, Quincy Henderson. He didn't play much as a Bluejay, but he was still in the Valley!
