  • BU players on campus

Most of the BU players are on campus, as are the 2 new coaches.

I believe a summer session started on Monday, but I could be wrong. I guess in a way their BU careers have begun. Welcome to Peoria!

That is correct, Summer Session 1 started Monday and I know at least a few, if not all, of the guys are attending classes.

Speaking of coach Les, here is an article about him and Bradley from the Springfield Journal-Register.

And here is a newspaper report about the appearance on the campus of Memphis of their new point guard, Derrick Rose--

          Interesting....
The author of that article on Jim Les is Jim Ruppert, and he is a Gatehouse Media writer, and his stories do often appear in the PJ Star.

so--- why is this story NOT in the PJ Star, as often articles by Gatehouse writers like Mike Nadel appear in both papers? It's very well done and complimentary of Jim Les and his accomplishments, and the article virtually "sells" Bradley basketball..

The only reason I can think of is the the people at the PJ Star hate Jim Les! There must be a conspiracy by the people who run the PJ Star not to give any good pub to coach Les or the BU program! There is no other plausible explanation for this cleary purposeful omission of a great article that is so complimentary. I may boycott the entire paper as a result of this outrage!
            Can we start winning soon?

Maybe they honestly didn't know about. Send it over to them and maybe they will print it.

I don't believe anyone hates JL, but I do think that any article this positive and this complimentary of Jim Les will never be seen in the Peoria Journal Star.
I have never seen one yet, nor any such article about Jim Molinari, nor any such article about any BU coach.
There has been a line of sports editors from Dick Lien, to Phil Theobald, to Kirk Wessler, and I have read the paper and their contributions every day for almost 40 years and have never seen such an article in the local paper....never.
You can offer whatever reason you want but I know the reason and cannot be dissuaded.

There have been plenty of UNcomplimentary pieces, but never one that starts and ends with a positive review of BU or its coach.
Every article always has to have that little slam such as-

"he surrounds himself with people who choose the expedient route instead of the principled one"

                  or

allegations of racism in the story about Steve Merfeld...

                  or

PJS editors slamming various targets like the BU administration for hiding its campus plans, the coaching staff for perceived shortcomings, the fans for their refusal to support the person they'd have liked to have seen hired, even slams of targets like Eric Gordon and his family, or fans who leave a solicited opinion to a column, and often, later one of the editors even apologizes for one of the slams, but only after the damage is done.

                  or

or asking JL to be accountable for every perceived negative the program has ever had, but not giving credit for any positive, and more.

...............ps.....dig me up when the PJS ever has a complimentary article like the one in the SJ-R

Sorry, I don't really want to take the time or effort to dig through and find specific articles, but I would have to imagine there were some pretty complimentary articles during, say, March of 2006.

Also, the reason the story ran in the SJ-R was because JL was working at a camp in Springfield. It's called localizing a story. I'm sure there are plenty of BU fans in Springfield, but I doubt most people really follow BU that much.

I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine the PJStar didn't run the story because it didn't add any new news. What did that article say that isn't already known by Bradley fans or Peorians? Here's a basic summary of the story:

                    - BU goes to Sweet 16.
                    - BU loses lots of key players, changes system.
                    - BU makes lots of 3s, does well with new system, exceeds expectations in 2006-07.
                    - BU now recruits to new system and uses Sweet 16 run to help with recruiting.

So where's the news that Peoria doesn't already know? Again, the only reason the story ran in the SJ-R was because JL was in Springfield.

Sure, whatever, but beyond reporting the obvious, those stories were always peppered with negative quips like like can't we do this every year, and this is what we should expect as the norm, and why has it taken so many years....

Even when some people were quite positive, the tone there was still distinctly negative.
                      So you don't recall these:

and when BU blew an NCAA tournament team out by 40 points, the story the next day was quite negative as to how BU got beaten so badly on the offensive boards.

but that hardly explains why an article that introduces Merfeld as the new assistant has the
obligatory (and speculative) slam about racism even when it isn't at all relevant.

Will Egolf's website has some stuff about Will getting to Peoria and enrolling.

"now i go to school at Bradley University. BU's poppin but illinois is flat, humid, and hot... but its straight cuz they made me an igloo for when i got here."

One of Will's firends is this guy

Ah yes, but the difference between basketball players and the average freshman in general population is you can bet Will isn't living in Heitz He!!, home of non-existent air conditioning. You don't know seriously hot 'til you've roomed in Heitz in August and your window is stuck down ...
