  • Matt Roth visits St. Louis U for 2nd time

Scout service has a report on Matt Roth tonight reporting that he just returned from a 2nd visit to St. Louis University.

    Here are a couple clips--
???‚¬?“They went well,???‚¬?? Roth said of the visits. ???‚¬?“I got to talk to the coaching staff and meet a couple of the players. They were both two good visits. I think my parents liked the visits as much as I did.???‚¬??

Roth has now made the two hour and 40 minute drive to St. Louis twice, visiting the first time with his mother and his high school coach and then coming back with his father last Tuesday.

???‚¬?“They???‚¬?„?ve told me they think I can come in and be the kind of guy who can stretch the defense and shoot the 3 with the new line,???‚¬?? Roth said

???‚¬?“He???‚¬?„?s (Majerus) an unbelievable guy and an even better basketball coach,???‚¬?? Roth said. ???‚¬?“I enjoyed the opportunity to sit down with him, to talk to him about basketball and school and everything. ???‚¬?¦ He???‚¬?„?s a great guy.???‚¬??

The 6-3 shooting guard said the Billikens are in his top four right now, along with Bradley, Illinois State and Wichita State, and he hopes to make a decision on his college destination after checking out a few more schools.

???‚¬?“I???‚¬?„?m still trying to take a couple more unofficial visits,???‚¬?? he said. ???‚¬?“Then I???‚¬?„?m going to sit down and talk with my parents and my high school coach and make a decision.???‚¬??

This last quote would suggest that Roth is no longer considering SIU very highly.

Moser appears to be a major factor for St. Louis U as does Chris Jans at Wichita St.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

Here are a couple comments from the St. Louis fans on their board after his recent visit...

"the kid could start as a freshman"
"SLU has to be the favorite"
The kid is the real deal"
        "would be a great get"
"Roth is very good, he could start at a lot of high majors"

But some think he is a role player others think he is in the same vein as "Blake Ahearn or Lance Stemler".

Sentiment of several dozen posts....is probably 50-50 with some wanting him, others thinking he's too slow and can't defend.

This would be the most accurate assessment.

What are these people smokin'? Sure he can shoot the lights out in HS, but there is more to DI basketball that shooting 3's. Just like HR's and the 95mph fastball in baseball, people are blinded by one thing and forget about everything else. Where's the sanity?

If he is Blake Ahearn then he could probably start at a high major and that would be awesome, if he came to BU. If he is Lance Stemler they can have him. I think a guy like Roth would excell in our system. Ill take him West and Shumpert please!!
              Can we start winning soon?

I'd hate to see him go through what happened to DeAaron Williams or Jamar Smith.
Wow. That's one heckuva strange comment.

Sorry, but we removed the last couple posts because they got a little off topic. Nothing really wrong with the ideas in the posts, except that they didn't really pertain to Matt Roth.
