Whining about money, griping that it's "not fair to the kids", and in general coming up with all
kinds of alibis, everyone seems to agree that the whole reason these schools existed was
to get the players a college scholarship, even though lots of them ended at junior college, and to get the coaches jobs on college staffs.

I wouldn't say get all players college scholarships, just certain ones who are the meal tickets of the coaches.
