The story has been updated now.....charged with misdemeanor stalking.....sounds like other charges may be forthcoming.

Florida A&M University men's basketball coach Mike Gillespie Sr. was arrested this afternoon on one count of misdemeanor stalking and taken to the Leon County Jail, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

A police department spokesman said officers are reviewing a number of charges prior to releasing a statement to the press.

This dude can coach but he's been in trouble for years. he used to coach at my highschool in the mid 70's to early 80's. he was forced out.

He then went to East Moline HS and coached the likes of former Iowa star Acie Earl. Shortly thereafter he was released from his duties at East Moline for the same thing he was released from Joliet Catholic.

He was a star guard for Ray Meyer and DePaul in the early 70's and is the son of legendary Baseball and Football coach Gordie Gillespie.

This is why he's at a school like Florida A&M when his basketball acumen and coaching abilities would likely enable him to have a high profile BCS job. He's simply a weirdo.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

Always wondered that, thanks Danny. I knew the guy had to have talent coaching. I mean, FAMU is not exactly going to attract a diverse student body in the first place, yet he's had some success there getting them to the NCAA tournament. A couple of years ago, FAMU played Kentucky very tight throughout the first 35 minutes.

Danny, all your info is correct except he did not coach Acie Earl. Acie went to Moline High and was coached my good friend the late Whitey Verstrate. I officiated many games at Moline that Acie played in. I also worked for MIke when he was at East Moline. He was only at East Moline for a couple of years but I worked his games probably 5 to 6 times. Not real easy to work for but just ok.

Florida A&M is forming a committee to search for a new coach.

This is a huge mistake, IMO. It's extremely late to get started now with a coaching search. Basketball practice starts in about 50 days, and this committee approach is guaranteed to take weeks. Good luck.
