#8 for the MVC is pretty good considering there are no major population centers among the member schools.

Bradley was #53 with an average of 9,728 per game.

Cincy has crosstown rival Xavier as well as competing with border fans of IU and Kentucky... plus many fans in the area for OSU and Lousville. (edit: need to add Miami-Oh, Dayton and Wright St nearby)

Maybe my definition of "HUGE market" is different from yours.

Eugene, Oregon......population approx 150,000
MacArthur Court seats 9,087

Pullman, Washington....population 27,030
their Arena seats over 12,000

Carbondale, Illinois.......population 25,000
SIU Arena seats 10,000 if you include infants and children under 10

Peoria, Illinois........population 112,000+ per their city website
Carver Arena seats approx 11,000

Taking nothing away from BU's attendance because it has been undoubtedly very strong. But to call Eugene, Oregon, Carbondale, Illinois and Pullman, Washington 'HUGE markets' is a stretch to say the least.

The town sizes are one factor but the student pop should be considered also. For Ex. Peoria is bigger than Champaign but Bradley is what 4 times smaller than U of I.

More than 6 times, I would speculate. Here in IN, Purdue has 38,000 students, IU over 40,000.

In regards to Duke, I think Cameron Indoor Stadium only seats like 6,000. I could be wrong and it may be 9,000 like stated above. Either way its smaller than the civic center.

Good for Bradley and the MVC though, we may be "smaller" but we've got pride.

Seton Hall, which ranks 83rd at 6,636 per game, has just made the decision to give up on their small
on campus arena and make the move to the BIG off campus Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Capacity there is 18,500.
(ps-- maybe some of the people who think BU should move
into a small on-campus arena can learn from these guys)

Assuming you are being negative towards Mo's scheduling, that to me is a little unfair.

He had the following on his schedule between his last season and 96-97:

Granted some of these games were in season tourneys but still there are some that were scheduled outside of the tourneys.

These stats would be a lot more meaningful if they showed the average attendance as a percentage of capacity as well. Doesn't seem like it'd be that much more work, I'm not going to go through and do it. It does make it look like Duke has poor attendance even though they sell out every game.

Just wondering what a study of that data is gonna prove.

Would the conclusion suggest some schools should have an arena small enough to sell out every game?

Would it mean more if Duke played in an arena that sat 25,000 but they only averaged 18,000 (72% capacity)?

Would it mean more if a team filled their 10,000 seat arena every game (100% capacity)?

Just curious - that's all.
