He committed to play at Temple out of high school, but didn't qualify, then he went to junior college college in California, and flunked out, then took some courses at Danville area Community College, but never played there.
Then he enrolled at Dixie State in Utah, and finally got qualified to play and went to UNLV.
He played the full season of 1996-1997 at UNLV but in 1997-1998 he was first suspended for violations of NCAA impermissable benefits rule for going on a trip paid for by agents, then shortly after returning he got suspended for violations of team rules.
Then he quit school and went in the NBA draft (1998, 13th overall) and has had repeated legal problems ever since.
