I heard directly from a couple of the players who scrimmaged with Will Egolf.
When Will Egolf visited BU it was not allowable for the BU coaches to observe him playing with the other players, so the coaches never saw him, but the players testified that the kid has major moves and abilities.
One of the present players described a move to me and his eyes rolled as he was describing Will flying through the air catching a pass about 1/2 way down the lane, then slamming it thru in an alley oop dunk over Zach Andrews.
Reportedly everyone's jaws dropped as none of them had seen anyone besides Zach make a move like that, and here was a kid who hadn't even begun his senior year in high school.
Plus the kid could nail threes.

wow, that first dunk was impressive. It takes a lot of athleticism and awareness to pull off a move like that. i'm officially excited to see this kid play.

Not to single you out B4L because several people have said it, but why does he have to be compared to Dirk? Because he's white? I don't care what color the kid is, those videos and his athleticism is impressive, and very people of any background can do what he did in those videos.

BB- I resisted the temptation to compare Will Egolf to Dirk Nowitzki, but when I talked with the coaches and the staff, at least one of the players and one of the coaches both compared his game to Nowitzki, in the sense that he can score from inside and outside, and he is a fine 3 point shooter as well as strong around the basket.
I can't think of too many others who have those attributes, and I am not saying Will is going to be another DN, but that's the kind of stuff people see in him.

Again, I wasn't trying to say he wasn't a DN-type, but rather just wondering why. Kevin Garnett is nearly the same size as Dirk, and several of the same attributes. With WE's athleticism, he almost seems closer to KG than DN. But hey, I will take either one! I'm excited about this kid!

OK...you win, if he turns out as good as Kevin Garnett, I'll be happy.

But KG is only 12-56 (21%) on 3 pointers, and Will Egolf is supposedly a true 3-pt threat!

He can be Dirk, I don't care. Especially if he ends up being 7 feet tall!

BBrave, if you don't care what color Will is, why did you bring it up? Does everything have to be white or black? Let's just be happy a player of his potential chose to play for the Braves.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I said he is Dirk-ish because he is! I have never seen Kevin Garnett take the ball behind his back, handle the ball like a guard, and go length of court for a dunk. Garnett can't hit the three like Dirk. He does rebound and block shots like a beast, unlike Dirk.

Egolf also reminds me of a video I saw of NBA prospect Danilo Gallinari, from Italy (oops, he's white too )

Since you seem to insist on a comparison to a black player try Antawn Jamison or Joe Smith. Though I think he compares more favorably to Dirk. If he's half as good as any of these guys I'll be happy

Actually, I don't care what he looks like, as I have said several times in this thread. I was just more pointing out that every next great white player is compared with a white player (i.e. the next Dirk) and the next great black player is compared with a black player (i.e. the next Jordan). I wasn't trying to single anyone out or make it an issue, moreso just making an observation. Again, I said several times it's really insignificant what he looks like if he can play. I don't think most people care. If they do, that's really sad.

If we REALLY want to get an acurrate comparison, I'd say the last 6'9" guy from the sticks who came out of nowhere with a similar skillset in the MVC was some guy named Larry Bird. Let's say Will's the next Larry Bird, only this one can jump!
