Creighton had been slated to play in the 2007 Las Vegas Tournament (the same one Bradley played in Nov, 2003).
Creighton was scheduled to play North Carolina then BYU at the Thanksgiving tournament but have pulled out.
The reason apparently is that Creighton's 2007-08 non conference schedule already has St. Joe's, Xavier, Drexel, and Depaul on it. The coaches are concerned that if they played those tough teams in the Las Vegas Tournament, it would be a too tough for a young team. With the loss of juco transfer Ty Morrison and the injury to point guard Josh Dotzler, Dana Altman was concerned about damaging their team's confidence. The possibility of a long losing streak to start the season with only 1 senior starter returning wasn't something that Creighton was prepared to entertain. Too bad, it could have helped strengthen the MVC's RPI.

Anybody know which exemp tournament Bradley will be playing in? It had been mentioned that they would play in the South Padre Island tournament or the one in Alaska. I would think the deadline for committing must be soon. I wouldn't mind going south for Thanksgiving.

You have got to be kidding!

If this is true, then I have seriously LOST a lot of respect for Creighton and Dana Altman!

This is the kind of opportunity every mid-major dreams of, and would have helped the enitire MVC, and in my opinion helped Creighton. Doesn't every kid and coach dream of an opportunity to play against the BEST?

I offer as an example, Iowa State of 2006-2007.
Just as soon as Greg McDermott became head coach he asked that the upcoming schedule be revamped to soften the nonconference part of it.
So against the likes of UC Riverside (RPI 316), Louisiana Monroe (RPI 203), EIU (309), Norfolk State (282), and non-D-I Lake Superior State, Iowa State blew out to a 6-0 start.

But it caused them to be VERY POORLY prepared for the rest of their schedule, so against a pretty soft remaining non-conference slate, and against a Big XII conference schedule that was as soft as it's been in years (Big XII was #7 rated conference, behind even the MVC), they fared poorly.
So they went from 6-0 to 15-16.
They shoulda played tougher teams early on!

Look for an announcement soon that BU will be playing in SP on Friday-Saturday, November 23-24.
