Very unfortunate, and I hope RB gets things going in the right direction.
Maybe playing with Lennox is an option, or going elsewhere, but since he hasn't yet had the opportunity to generate any real contribution to this point at BU, I'd say it isn't like this is the worst thing we could have been hit with.

What a waste! The last paragraph says it all. Do we go
after a recruit for the upcoming season, or hold the scholarship
for next year. I would give serious consideration to hold the
      scholarship for next year.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I agree, use it for 2008, as there are absolutely no players out there for 2007 that will sign now, except Patrick Patterson, Zach House, or Beas Hamga.
And we sure don't need an obscure juco player added.
Hold the scholarship and use it on the class of 2008.

this one is very disappointing. I feel for Ray and think he made a mistake (or several), and that the basketball coaches handled this just how they should have. But at the same time, its a shame to see this happen over something so petty. Kudos to coach Les for making what was, i'm sure, a very difficult decision.

            bummer.

he would be a good get. Also, what about Leon Powell? Did he ever get a qualifying score?

WOW........other than the 2 years out of POB....we are not doing to good with the kids from MINN....RB was a wasted couple of years IMO ........I have no sympathy for what he did...it was a choice plan and simple....XC didn't qualify and who knows if he will ever come here?

Some more turnover for the program... I'm gonna need a media guide for next season at this point.

Had been looking forward to seeing Ray play next year.

                    Dang it!

I wish Ray the best in getting things turned around for himself.

If not, there are plenty of seats at Benchwarmer Bob's for him to have a jar and talk about what coulda been.

How is this petty? It's illegal and he got caught twice. It'd be interesting to hear a statement from RB about this.

This is a joke right, he knew every month he was going to be tested, yet still thought it was a good idea to smoke weed.

Not only was his time at BU a waste but the decision he made to smoke weed when he knew he was being tested monthly is plain dumb and shows a complete disregard for BU, his teammates and those who supported him during his year suspension.

I have no sympathy for Ray Brown. Hope that that night of weed smoking was worth it.

Not a real big surprise. Bad decision making on RB's part, excellent decision making on JL's part. Seriously, I'm disappointed in Ray. I like him. He's a smart kid with a family of his own to take care of ... but if you know you're getting tested each month, it would seem to me that the answer there would be lay off the reefer. The university gives these kids an education and national exposure. All they really have to do in return is keep their noses clean for a few years. I'm disappointed because he really could have made an impact next year and because I thought he was ready to be a role model for little RayRay.

                          :: descend from soapbox ::

JL has apparently been working on sending messages to the team about appropriate behavior. I say good for him. Let's hold the schollie.

I also wish Ray well. He is a super nice kid. I hope he can land on his feet and play somewhere.

Demetrius Young has not signed anywhere yet. I don't know if it's too late to get back in on him. I have PMed Coach Corn, but haven't heard back.

Maybe the best thing would be to hold the scholarship and keep the channels open for an impact transfer. There are dozens of kids who are looking to transfer right now. It's always nice to have an open scholarship in case there is a kid who can help our program.

Here is a list of transfers that are mostly still available (some have declared where they are transferring), and there are some good ones--

Here are ones who have already committed elsewhere--

All of a sudden, I worry about depth. Throwing freshman out there for significant minutes on the road in the Valley worries me.

Bank the scholly unless Oden or Durant decides to transfer Looking at the scholly grid, let's keep an option open for 08-09 at this point.
