I think if the young man doesn't feel comfortable for whatever reason he should go elsewhere. While not exactly the same situation I happen to work in fast food and was robbed at gunpoint several<yikes 13> years ago. As your argument states... "it could happen anywhere". I however was very ineffective as a manager at that location for the 3 weeks I tried to stick it out. I asked for and was granted a transfer by the owner of the franchise and worked for them for another 6 years. Again it could happen anywhere but the simple fact is it happened "there" and whether it is a "good" reason or not it is a valid reason for wanting to be elsewhere.
Just my opinion on the subject.
