It will be hard for Bradley to compete with the likes of North Carolina, Duke, UCLA.

" Shumpert has impressed against some of the class of 2008???‚¬?„?s most talented players.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound combo guard has become a priority for high-majors across the country

Prior to the spring he had interest from Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois, Bradley, Marquette, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami-FL and Tennessee. Since the evaluation period ended Shumpert has gotten calls from North Carolina, Florida, Duke, Virginia and UCLA.

???‚¬?“It got out of control, but I???‚¬?„?ve finally got it under control,???‚¬?? Shumpert said. ???‚¬?“There are a lot of offers floating around, but if I haven???‚¬?„?t developed a relationship with their head coach then I???‚¬?„?m not going to be as involved with them.

North Carolina is among the schools that have gotten involved recently. Shumpert said he received a call from Steve Robinson and the Tar Heels want to begin the recruiting process with him.

...are the Tar Heels a team that Shumpert is interested in?

???‚¬?“Oh, yeah, definitely,???‚¬?? he said. ???‚¬?“They send people to the pros.???‚¬??

Shumpert, who has already taken unofficial visits to Wisconsin, Illinois, Notre Dame, Bradley and Northwestern, says the next step is to take a few more visits and begin to narrow down his list. "

It certainly will be tough for us to compete with those names, but I do like seeing our name continually mentioned with them.

When i spoke to Iman the other day, he said this:
" Duke tried to get involved, but i'm not really interested. They basically said i wouldn't play much my freshman year, and i want to go to a school where i can play right away. "

good news for BU, as he would be a sure fire starter freshman year.

In another premium commentary I found here are the words Dave Telep uses to describe Shumpert:

"Iman Shumpert, SG/PG, Oak Park (Ill.) Oak Park & River Forest ???‚¬??? He???‚¬?„?s the perfect storm: talented, big for his position and a late bloomer. In short, the combo guard is everything you could want in a wing prospect and he???‚¬?„?s playing into all-american status. Late bloomers are the best kind of recruits and for a guy who averaged 5 points a game as a sophomore in high school he???‚¬?„?s sure made strides since 2006. Shumpert forced his way to No. 15 on the list."

I'll you OE at ISU for an example. Here's a guy that could possibly be a 16-20ppg scorer before his career is over at ISU. Significant pt as a freshman and will "stick out" in the MVC. IOW he has a chance to ber a star and regardless that its ISU/MVC scouts will find you.

Now lets say he went to Michigan state. Probably doesn't see significant minutes until his soph perhaps even jr year. Ends up with an average career scoring 8-10ppg as a Senior.

I realize the big difference in this case is OE didn't have the offers like Shumpert is getting but the point is still the same and one we always discuss. Big fish small pond.

Concieveably a guy like Iman could come to the MVC, BU of course , START as a freshman and end up a 20-25 + ppg scorer in a couple years and really open some scouts eyes OR share the spotlite at a Duke, NC with a roster of Mc Donalds All Americans.

I would require medical assistance if he committed to us.
              Can we start winning soon?

Ditto! If he signed with BU would it surpass the signing of JJ Anderson? JJ was big time (approx. 44pts/game) but I do not remember how he was ranked. JJ was the biggest name I can remember (although Thirdkill was also a big name) since I became a fan in the 70's, right?

Dick Versace has some great stories about his recruitment of Mitchell Anderson. The visiting rules were much different back then, and Versace was the first guy on JJ, and was literally at JJ's house when he woke up, and when he went to bed every night until he committed to BU. With the rules the way they are nowadays, it's harder for a school like BU, who's on a kid like Shumpert early, to maintain any advantage like they were able to with guys like Voise Winters and Mitchell Anderson.

But as Dick Versace soon found out, that if you are a mid-major and you begin landing top recruits,
someone from the NCAA will soon come asking questions.

One thing here stands out though. JL recognized this kid's talent EARLY and recruited him. Hats off to the staff... It is nice to see BU mentioned with the big schools.

Another article on Iman shumpert. He says he is close to closing his recruitment. And he still lists the following schools--Georgia Tech, Clemson, Marquette, Northwestern, Miami (FL), Southern Illinois and Bradley.

It's interesting... he doesn't seem to list programs that are huge. He must want P/T or some factor outside the "norm."

Well, that article that those quotes came from is nearly a month old now (4/24/07)...so I would guess his list of programs might be a bit different now...I know he mentioned North Carolina as a place he was considering in a more recent article.

It's a nice story that he has kept BU on his list this far...but he's a top 20 recruit nationally now, so it is silly of us to think there is any chance he is coming here. If he remains this high in the rankings, a school like UNC will throw everything they have at him, promise him playing time from day 1, and do whatever is necessary to seal the deal...and how could you blame the kid for going that route?
