  • Nick Fruendt Makes Decision

    He is going to Northwestern
He made his decision last night, and I will PM some of you the full story

Wow, DePaul really went hard after Fruendt, and Bradley seemed to want him as well.
Now let's see if he ever experiences post season play at NU.

I think he is going there for the education, not the basketball. He is a very good high school player, and could be a decent college player but will not be in the NBA. I think its a good choice for him.

        Why?

Could this be someone who actually committed because of academics? I have heard he is a good student. Maybe in his major it was the best school. Can't do much better that NW for that.

Oops you beat me to it Fetz.

No question, and good for him if that's the reason he's choosing!
He will have a shot at good playing time immediately, but then so did all the other rostered players last year when they went 2-14 in the Big Ten and lost 15 of their final 18 games.
He must indeed be going there for the education because it can't possibly be for the basketball!

Northwestern was last in the Big Ten in scoring (by a full 4 points worse than even Minnesota!)
and last in rebounding, a full 7 reb/gm worse than Minnesota.

But here is a humbling stat...
Northwestern finished so far down in last place in the Big Ten in home attendance, they weren't even within 3000 of the next worst Big Ten team.
Their home attendance of only 6000 would even be bad in the MVC, but is pitiful in comparison with the 15,000+ of many other Big Teams. Often local high school games outdrew the Mildcats.

ps......can anyone name even one Northwestern basketball player on the roster?

..........good luck Nick, I hope you reverse the trend there!!

Let's not be cutting up other programs and begrudging a young man, just because he didn't choose to play for the Braves. I know Bradley has never been down as long as Norhtwestern has been now, but we have had our lean years. The likes of Dick Versace and Jim Les came along and put us back on the map. Good luck Nick, I hope you can help turn the Wildcat's program around.

Will Bill Carmody still be there in 2008? If they have another bad year, maybe not. Could Freundt end up changing his mind? Maybe we should keep a scholarship open?

The other factor about Northwestern that is hard to understand is how few players they have had that have recently played in the NBA. Here is a list of all former Northwestern players who have ever suited up for an NBA team--

Note that they have not had any players in the NBA in the past 4 years, and Evan Eschmeyer (2000-2003) is the only one they have had in the last 20+ years. And Billy McKinney (1979-1986) is the only other player in the last 30+ years! No other Big Ten team has such a woeful record of producing pro players.

Northwestern is one of the top schools in the country, and he will get to play right away. SInce he is not going to the NBA can you blame him for going there? Maybe he doesnt care about there lack of post season play or maybe he thinks he can help he get to the post season. I really dont think every time a recruit chooses another school he makes a stupid choice.
                          Can we start winning soon?

does it make me a bad person if i think they make a stupid choice by not coming to BU?

I see people saying we shouldn't say it's a mistake when players choose other schools. I agree. I don't see any comments doing that though. This makes me wonder if my statement looked critical. I didn't mean it that way at all. I was just stating a logical reason he chose Northwestern. If my statement looks negative I didn't mean it that way. I would have liked to had him, but I wish him well. Unless he ever plays against BU.
