  • Another school going Division I

Seattle University dropped out of Div I in 1980, but now is seeking to return to Division I.
Seattle U's best player was Elgin Baylor who helped lead them to the NCAA Championship game in 1958 against Adolph Rupp's Kentucky.

What did you do Mr Smartypants Radigan - read the article?

They would be a good fit in the WCC, but the WCC has said it doesn't plan to expand.

Maybe the PAC10 will take 'em so they can be like the A10 and B10.

There will actually be a few changes in Division I this coming year.

The four new D-I schools in 2007-2008 are:

Florida Gulf Coast University- They are the 11th member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
USC-Upstate (University of South Carolina-Upstate) - they become the 12th member of the Atlantic Sun Conference
Presbyterian College of Clinton, SC - They will compete in the Big South Conference, becoming the 9th member.
North Carolina Central - is joining the MEAC.

I can't see why any of these schools would move to D-I. They don't seem like D-I material.

Nearly all D1 schools make money, because they share in the revenues generated by TV contracts and the Div I tournament, and there is usually an increase in attendance and visibility with going to D1. I don't know if any D2 or D3 teams make money, but if there are, it has to be very few.

IUPUI went DI in the 98-99 season.

IUPUI made the 2003 NCAA tourney on a memorable upset in the Mid-Continent Conference Tourney Championship over Valparaiso.

Mid-Continent member Valpo was a fan favorite in 1998 reaching the Sweet 16 as a 13 seed.

                * sorry - edited their tourney success to Sweet 16 instead of Elite 8. They lost to Rhode Island (the 8 seed).
