Official release-- Coach Buescher announces retirement
This is a very sad day and certainly puts a lot more question marks on next season. This much turnover in both player personnel and the coaching staff can be detrimental to the progress of any program.
I have confidence that Jim will do everything in his power to find the best possible replacement. I am guessing he'll be looking for a seasoned veteran who he's worked with/played with/has connections with, and preferably who has experience working with big men. A strong recruiter is of course a plus, but I don't think required. I think an experienced tactitioner and battle-tested coach is the most important quality this hire needs to have.

Thanks for everything Chuck, you will be missed.
I agree, we need a good hard nosed x's and o's guy. This much turnover scares me as well, but I'd still say the future looks bright.

One thing that I would like to see and is something that would definately benefit the program is a coach with strong ties to Chicago and the surrounding area. I'm sure Coach Brooks will do a great job here but I don't think he has any ties to that area and someone with connections in Chicago would be very beneficial.
Thanks Coach Buescher for everything you have done.
and...have a wonderful time with your retirement.
Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
Anyone want to bet now where CB's season tickets will be? He made a point of telling Dave Reynolds that he would stay in town for the season. My guess would be directly behind the bench. Oh, and since, you know, he'll have so much time on his hands, what with being retired and all, I'd also bet he'll spend a few afternoons a week at the good ol' Robertson Memorial.
This may be good. He can still lend his volumes of knowledge without the technical requirements that accompany being an official coach, ie recruiting trips, NCAA BS, etc. Even if he steers clear, you never know who'll be talking in EB's ear over Sunday dinners ...

I was wondering about something and maybe those of you a bit closer to the program can help with the question. Dick Versace of course lives in Canton but how often does he attend practices and how often does he get together with JL and/or staff? Or is he simply an observer who doesnt get to involved with the program?
BTW thanks CB for your time and dedication to our program.
you are right on all counts and Dick Versace is a good friend of Jim Les'
but as for whether he wants to get back into coaching, I would suspect not and that's why he moved to Canton.

I thought Versace's wife is from Canton area - right?
