I have heard that Chuck Buescher is going to saddle up Dobbin and ride into the Sunset.
He will be replaced by AHEM, former E-Ville coach Steve Merfield.
Yuck. Merfield ALWAYS looks teed off. Only claim to fame, took Hampton to NCAA's.and pulled a first round upset, A lot of guys in that boat.
Me thinks we could do better.

I suspected as much when Brooks was announced. People can downplay his role as an asst at a juco, but that guy had credentials that made me think he would not be coming to BU as anything but JL's top assistant.
We owe a whole lot to Big Bish.
The question now: who gets the new spot? Do I smell some CORN on the barbecue?

Then again the Brewers are the best team in baseball so anything can happen.

Me thinks we could do better.Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

But even last season during the BU/EU game in Peoria.... I recall Merfeld not happy about a call in the game where the action was right in front of Coach Les. Steve yelled at the ref (couldn't get the refs attention)... then he yelled at Jim and asked him what he saw honestly... Coach Les shrugged his shoulders, flipped an imaginary coin in the air and said it coulda gone either way.
It just struck me as an odd exchange if the two didn't like each other. It was a very friendly and funny exchange.

Any animosity between Jim Les and Merf is ancient history. They have become good friends from what I have heard.
I will anxiously await the official announcement, but although Merfeld didn't have much success at Evansville, he was highly successful at Hampton, and is as bright a coach as there is, and extremely hard working and dedicated.

Merfeld is an old, old friend of Ken Kavanagh, going back to their days at Bowling Green,
And I suspect Jim Les would greatly value Merfeld's expertise and connections.
The rumor of some discord between Les and Merf started with an article by Dave Reynolds, suggesting a rift, but as I found out later it was never true at all....and posted that but the false rumor still lives.
Of course we will have to wait to see if it is indeed Merfeld, as I have not seen confirmation.
As for Coach Chuck Buescher....I suspect he'll still have some volunteer input, but I want to personally thank CB for his part of helping build this program, and for the gifts that he has given to all of us.
Here is the official announcement...
