Danny, Isiah Martin is raw and very thin. He is an athletic kid, which is why Jim Les (and from what I have heard Porter Moser, too) was interested early on, but a couple sources have said he did not develop over last summer's AAU circuit and during this past senior season much at all. He has virtually no offensive game. He is the kind of kid who would benefit from a redshirt year at the level of the MVC, but I don't know if Indiana State can afford that.
I find it very strange that schools like UIC, NIU, Loyola, and the other regionals were not interested at all. I think it's because they had more chances to watch and evaluate him.
At one time (after his soph season) Martin was rated by some recruiting sites in the top 10 among Class of 2007 Illinois kids because of his potential. But now he is rated in the 20's at best, and some people do not even list him in the top 40.

Indiana State is a good place for him. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Yes Porter was interested at one time and I'm sure he was thinking redshirt as well. Speaking of thin post players, has anyone heard anything on Demond Watt from TF North? I know Porter was recruiting him hard at ISU, but I haven't heard anything on this kid.

He has talent, i was impressed when I saw him play (though he only played within 10 feet of the hoop) but I was wondering why he hasn't signed anywhere. I would think he is running out of time even to go to a decent JUCO.

At this point, his best option is a Prep School i would think. For Martin I think it will help that he's arriving at a new school with a new coach. expectations for both should be reasonable, but I agree that a redshirt year will do wonders for him.

he does have some ability though and if McKenna can reach that potential for him, he'll be a nice player.

I did some checking, because I find it strange Demond Watt hasn't committed yet. Some reports suggest he may not qualify and would need to go the prep or juco route. Another person said he is leaning toward Wyoming, though several sites don't mention Wyoming.

Here are a couple premium articles--
This Rivals article from February 12, 2007 reports "Watt said he is holding offers from Ball State, Dayton, Illinois State, Massachusetts, Northern Illinois, St. Louis and Wyoming. Even with the handful of offers, Watt said he has yet to take an official visit or have any in-home visits back in the fall."--

But those "offers" must not have really been solid offers.
This Scout article from 4/13/07 reports that he has no solid offers, but that Wichita State, Northwestern, and Illinois were "monitoring his progress through the spring.".--

But he does seem to have the talent and size to be a solid midmajor player. So I do think academic status may still be a factor.
