  • Recruits that could take us to a new level

With the recruits we landed this year, I think we could have a powerfull team with just a few recruits mixed in next year. I'd love to see us get 2 or 3 of the following next year.

    1. Iman Shumpert
    2. L A Pomlee
    3. Jeremy Robinson
    4. Daniel West
    5. Matt Roth
    6. Dwight Buycks

I'd especially like the guards, the big guys are just so talented I couldn't leave them off. I left one big guy off on purpose. Unless he shows improvement, I don't think we need another inside guy unless he can score. PS I'd also take Daniel West teamate but that is even more of a long shot than I can hope for.

To be honest, I like Matt Roth, but IMO he does not belong on a list with those guys, I don't know whats taking him so long to verbal, but I think he thinks he's better than mid-major, and I just disagree. I would LOVE to just hold onto Buycks and West and pick up a scoring Big Man(could be XC).

Matt Roth is not a player that can take us to the 'next level'.

With that in mind, does anyone think that Saint Louis will be a player for Roth? I'm sure Majelly-a$$ would love him. Plus, with Porter as his lead assistant and Porter already knowing Roth well from when he recruited him at ISU.

I haven't heard anything, but I would imagine they'd pursue him.

i definitely agree about roth. he's too short to be a set-shooter. he's good, but not amazing. i also think iman shumpert is pretty close to unreasonable. the guy's a freak! i'd like to see us start recruiting taller guard/forwards. i think it's valuable to have a 6'6" guard and a 6'8" small forward. with the three point line moving out, it's gonna be more valuable to have an excellent inside game.

I just can't see Matt Roth wanting to go to SLU...but who knows, I suppose it could happen.
(I happen to know from a reliable source that when Majerus was at Utah, he was recruiting Lance Stemler, but still wanted him to redshirt, but that Majerus likes bigger shooting guards.)
First, they haven't been in on recruiting Matt at all yet.
2nd- one of the connections to ISU was that Matt Roth's high school coach also coached one of the present ISU kids, but that connection just doesn't exist now at SLU.
3rd- playing in the Valley, Matt's family could see a lot of games, but not as many if all the road games are out east.

I guess time will tell, but if Roth waits too long, I know Bradley will fill their 2008 scholarships with kids like Buycks, Pomlee, Robinson, etc.

you are probably right. yes Kevin Brown coached Levi Dyer in Colorado.

I wonder if Roth will verbal before the Fall? I would have to think that SIU is out of the picture with the glut of guards they have.

I wouldn't be surprised if SLU goes after Roth because of the Porter Moser connection. If the NCAA does move the 3-point line back a foot, it could make a shooter like Matt Roth even more valuable.

And yes, Majerus sat in the Stemlers' living room and told the Stemlers (I heard it from the same source-- Lance's mother) he wanted Lance, but that he advised a year of prep school or juco to get stronger, and then there would be a scholarshiup for him. He was quite impressed with Lance's shooting skills and likes that kind of player. Unfortunately, he was no oonger at Utah shortly after that.
But I don't think it is a stretch to think he'd like Roth.

Iman Shumpert has now probably moved higher than Bradley.

Rivals' latest article calls him "one of the fastest rising guards in the nation", and reports he has a new offer from Bruce Pearl and Tennessee, to go with prior offers from " Georgia Tech, Clemson, Wisconsin, Miami, Notre Dame and Iowa". They don't mention Bradley, though we know Bradley has offered, as have several other midmajors, according to his profile page.

I realize Shumpert is probably out of our league. I have heard he is a little different and won't go where everyone else is going. I think they were refering to maybe Clemson or a school that was big time but not getting all the top recruits. That is the only thing making me hope we can get him. That and the fact that when he visited, he stood and cheered and seemed exited. He didn't just sit and watch. I could always hope.

Here is a new article from IllinoisPrepBullseye that says Shumpert still has Bradley on his list despite offers from many high majors--

Also in that article-- Another top Illinois class of 2008 player, Matthew Humphrey was offered by Bradley a long time ago. But his list now contains only the big boys, and Illinois is making him their top priority.
And the last ranked class of 2007 big man that hasn't committed, Isiah Martin of Chicago Morgan Park, is set to decide between Indiana State and Boston University. Martin was also a Bradley and ISU recruit at one time.

I would think that with all the connections BU has with the city of Washington and the high school, that if JL really wants Matt Roth, we'll get him. There are lots of BU fans, graduates, ex-coaches, and others who support Bradley.
                      Examples:
Chuck Buescher lives, or lived there.
                      Eric Buescher played there.
Steve Doty coached and was AD there. He never misses a BU game.
Chuck Westendorf coached there. He never misses a game.
Dick Van Scyoc, Chuck's father in law, coached there.
                      And probably many more.
This plus, Bradley basketball is a perfect fit for Matt. JC will be graduated, and a spot for the kind of shooter Matt is, will exist. People question his quickness and other skills, but IMHO, he really knows how to play and will be a very fine addition, both from a basketball standpoint and from a character standpoint.

I have said this time and time again. We need to get Matt Roth! Most people here think that he is overrated and we can do better. We can and we will, but the fact is that the kid can shoot the lights out. alot of people busted Crouch's balls about how slow he was and how bad his sophomore slump was and all he does is come in and lead the team in scoring. We need to get this kid and we need to do it ASAP. He will get better and then BAM will come a knockin'.

I found a report on LA Pomlee from the NBPA Camp (from an obscure premium site).......

"L.A. Pomlee 6-foot-8 PF Davenport, IA Central built on 12 point performance from last night by hitting step in jump hook. He did run out of gas a little in the second half, but still isn't quite back to game shape after taking year off due to health problems."

                          BU is still recruiting him....
