  • Rivals Rankings, 2007 Point guards/Maniscalco

Among all point guards in the nation in the Class of 2007,
Sam Maniscalco is the third highest Illinois players rated and overall is ranked #37.
    (Illinois players are in bold)
Every player among the top 50 who has already committed, has verballed to a BCS school, except Sam!
BU is right there with the "big boys"!

scout/insiders has Sam at TWO Stars, and rated 6th among point guards in Illinois

Do you think Sam's committment will end Bradley's interest in the guy who is rated 7th in the nation, right behind Maniscalco?

1-Derrick Rose (Simeon Vocational HS) Chicago, IL 6-2/180

    FOUR STARS
2-Demetri McCamey (St. Joseph HS) Westchester, IL 6-4/190

    THREE STARS
3-Jeffrey Jordan (Loyola Academy) Wilmette, IL 6-1/160

4-Michael Horton (Von Steuben Metro Science Ctr) Chicago, IL 5-9/165
5-Aaron Johnson (Hubbard HS) Chicago, IL 5-8/160
6-Sam Maniscalco (St. Patrick HS) Chicago, IL 6-0/150 Committed to Bradley

      SM

If SM(#37) is as close to AL Nolen#40 from Minnesota. Bradley has a stud, becuase Al Nolen is a stud

newBUfan, if you have seen some of my posts, you'll be familiar with some of my feelings about the rankings and ratings of the kids from Chicago

Much of what goes on in Chitown is strongly under the control of the AAU coaches and the big event organizers.

chicagohoops.com is one of the most oft-quoted sites in regards to rankings, but they run their own "Exposure Events" for profit and so obviously HYPE and promote the very guys that pay their fee for "Exposure".
Look at today's front page and you'll see how they hype Osiris Eldridge, and the guys from Boys to Men, almost on a daily basis because those guys pay fees for the events and for the hype.
So their rankings can hardly be objective.

BUT--Maniscalco hasn't been one of their frequent guys in their events so wherever he is rated, he's likely a much better prospect but doesn't get thehype because he doesn't pay the fees.

I feel the guys at Rivals and scout are a bit more realistic but you still have to go with caution because they also make money selling their services for profit, so who knows who has the influence there?

Maniscalco lliterally carried his team on his back nearly to state, despite not having a star filled roster on his St. Pat's team.
He can score, he is a top PG, he is known as a great defender, and he will be is an article aboloyal to Bradley as his dad went there!
Here are a couple articles about Sam:

Ex-BU star Billy Wright will take over as head coach at Indianapolis Pike High School, in this story that also makes mention of BU recruit Andrew Warren.

While we are talking about recruits, Rivals just happens to have a brand new report about Xavier Crawford on its Premium site.
            here is what they say:

"Bradley big man Patrick O'Bryant came out of obscurity only to see his name mentioned amongst some of the top NBA prospects in college basketball.

Jim Les and his staff may have another hidden gem in Xavier Crawford. The 6-foot-9 athletic forward from Minnesota has a world of potential.

When Crawford is at his best, he is a bouncy big man that plays well around the rim and gives the opposition a hard time because of his length on the defensive end. While Crawford may not be a future NBA draft pick, he will be a player that has a potentially good career ahead of him if he can stay on the right path."

9they also have a nice short blurb on Osiris Eldridge as well)
