I agree with the contingent that is upset we won't get to see him on the hilltop, I think that he would have been a great addition, a drive and kick or score type of player. I know basketball isn't everything and agree that this kid had his opportunity and didn't get the job done, but I would love for him to get his academics in order and join the team even for one year.

How bad does a persons grades have to be to not get into Bradley? I can't imagine his grades being bad enough to not let him into Bradley yet he can still make it into another school. To me it seems more like an excuse to get the other kid instead.Comment

Robert, surely you know that schools all differ in regard to academic standards.
Stanford, Harvard, etc. all have way higher standards before you can even dream of getting in there.
And whether you believe it or not, Bradley's acadmic standards are considerably higher than almost all the state schools.
It is no surprse that DeAaron will fall short, as no matter how gifted an athlete you are, you still have to meet the standards.
This, of course, is not true everywhere. some schools have lax standards, and some ignore the ones they do have because the covet the talent.
DeAaron will easily be still able to find a school that will take him, and there are likely a few in this state.Comment

There is no conspiracy theory here. BU isn't fabricating DeAaron's academic shortcomings at ICC in order to sign Theron Wilson. For DeAaron to have qualified for BU, he had to get his Associates Degree from ICC...He was nowhere near attaining his degree there, so BU had to move on to plan B.Originally posted by Robert23

Robert, DeAaron Williams is presently completing his 3rd year of college, and yet he still has not passed the minimal number of courses to qualify for a 2-year degree.
That's right, in 3 years he still doesn't have the credits to get a juco degree.
and even with extra work this summer, he is still well behind being on track to get there.
What does this say?
It sure doesn't identify academics as a strong point, and BU does have acadmic standards that DW has fallen short of.
Turn your blame towards the people at Wisconsin and ICC that have failed this kid, and turn a little towards Williams himself.Sign in front of the Peoria Journal Star

DeAaron Williams was the highest rated recruit Bradley has ever had in my memory. He was the top recruit in a stellar recruiting class for Bradley. He was recruited by Illinois, and a number of other Top 20 programs out of high school, and was a highly touted recruit for Wisconsin. And he is a superbly skilled basketball player.
Why would Bradley want some excuse to get rid of him and get another kid? Especially since they could always find a way to get Theron Wilson anyway.
If you don't believe DeAaron has overwhelming academic problems, just check with the people at Wisconsin, he failed there; check with the people at ICC. Despite 3 full years at college (1 1/2 at Wisconsin and 1 1/2 at ICC) he doesn't have enough credits to get an associates degree from ICC (usually obtainable in 2 years or less for most people) and has to carry a huge, nearly impossible academic load for the summer session to try to make up the deficit.
And recall that he was a qualifier out of high school and was admitted to Wisconsin (supposedly a good academic institution), but when he tried to transfer initially to Bradley in January of 2006, he was denied because of his extremely poor academic record and many credits that were not transferrable--
Sorry, but you have things completely backward-- Bradley did everything possible, legally and physically- to help DW get into Bradley and to acquire his skills for the team. I am sure Theron Wilson will be a nice player for Bradley, but I am also sure Jim Les would also very much like to have DeAaron Williams. But DeAaron and his academic counselors at his prior schools have seen to it that it isn't going to happen.
Don't give us any Bradley-blaming junk here with this case.Comment

Remember, this is NOT the first time DeAaron Williams has been denied admission to Bradley based on insufficient acadmic standing.
1/21/06:
"The Journal Star has learned Bradley has not accepted DeAaron Williams into the university because of academic issues for the spring semester. Williams, the former Limestone High School standout who quit the University of Wisconsin team last week, reportedly is searching for a school to attend for the spring semester. If he regains his eligibility, Williams could transfer to Bradley or another Division I school in the fall and then sit out a year before becoming eligible to play."
Williams essentially flunked out at Wisconsin and tried to transfer to Bradley and was denied.

Why didn't Bradley just arrange for DeAaron to enroll in the same correspondence course Ricky Clemons used at Missouri? He was able to make up 24 credit hours in one 4 week summer semester with the correspondence course through BYU.
Most athletes take about 12 credit hours a semester, so it would normally take 2 full semesters to get 24 credit hours. But not if you go to Missouri.From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-

Bradley has been recruiting Austin and Wilson and it has nothing to do with Williams or a backup plan; I welcome these 2 players as they can add inside scoring , rebounding, defense and it sounds like they are both mentally tough players which is something this team needs;Jim Les has done one heck of a job recruiting this year and all of us should look forward to the future as it looks very bright; I was gone last weekend to ST.Louis and when I heard the news about Fears I was really dissappointed; but if he did not do the things that was expected out of him and the rest of the team then I am happy he will not be here as I only want team players; I think he will be the biggest loser as he really has few options left.Comment
